Last week I attempted to trade the MHI with IB, but was informed that here in the States we cannot trade the MHI. We can only trade the "big" contract, the HSI. Tick value ti one point and each tick is 50 Hong Kong dollars. 7 HK dollars= 1 US dollar.
I think that the ATR is about 200 points. Watch it trade...it's very volitile.
I'm watching for now with the possibility of trading it in the future.I was really dissapointed to learn that I couldn't trade the mini. The HSI is more risk than I can handle right now.

The MHI has not been approved by the CFTC. I spoke with the HK exchange and was told the cost of gaining approval (legal, time, etc) would run towards 200K and they don't plan to apply anytime in the near future.

So why is HSI and not MHI alllowed? Has to do with HSI being grandfathered in under some older rules.

For a smaller contract you can look at SPI in Australia but intrady volatility is much lower.

    Ewile,

Where do you get your market data? Yes the big Contract is a bit rich. But I would like to tech analyze it.

    Thanks

I use IB with Quotetracker to watch the HSI

I trade the Australian SPI, Nikkei 225 on Simex and the Hang Seng. Watch out for slippage on the HSI, it can be cruel. The SPI and N225 are correlated to a degree. The HSI runs its own race. I use CSI data for all markets.

  8. Started watching the MHI/HSI..what is this:

    "Pre-Market Opening Period
    9:15 a.m. - 9:45 a.m. and
    2:00 p.m. - 2:30 p.m. (Hong Kong time) "

is this just to facilitate bid/offers? or do actual trades take place?

The spread on this sucker is wild...10 + pts??

Also any plans to add the volume for MHI/HSI into TWS def? I see bid/offers moving but trades or volume dont see to register in TWS.

    Thanks

  9. I haven't traded them yet, but how come they can be
    correlated?
because sydny is one hour forward to tokyo, i mean to
say this two markets aren't opening same timefor trading.
I heard this before, isn't it weird? can someone explain?

  10. What if i have account with IB and i am not a US citizen, and
living outside US, can i trade MHI trough TWS?
