Why I’m Exposing Officials Who Are Still Forcing Masks on Kids
    COMMENTARY
    https://www.realclearpolitics.com/a...o_are_still_forcing_masks_on_kids_147801.html

New York City revoked its child mask mandate last week. That leaves about a dozen public school systems, including districts in Pittsburgh, Boston, Newark, Milwaukee, and the entire state of Hawaii, plus an untold number of private schools, still making kids wear masks as this academic year comes to an end.

To most of us, this seems strange. Vaccines are widely available, kids are at extremely low risk of serious illness from COVID-19, and almost all federal and state authorities have dropped their own mask requirements.

But on closer inspection, these last apostles for making kids wear masks in school seem oddly familiar. They represent a concentrated version of the toxic hysteria that has defined the “national dialogue” about child safety since the start of the pandemic.

For my new documentary, “What’s Driving the Schools Still Making Kids Wear Masks,” I interviewed a history teacher at perhaps the most mask-fanatical school in the country. Despite a staff-and-student vaccination rate close to 100%, his school imposed an outdoor mask mandate until March 2022. Students had to perform their spring musical in a parking lot, singing through N95s. And his school still requires universal indoor masking; kids can take the masks off only to eat lunch.

  7. In April, city authorities announced that they were extending a mask mandate for all pre-K programs. Health Commissioner Ashwin Vasan’s justification was the protection of children’s health, telling reporters: “As a father of a two-year-old ... I want to keep him safe.”

The city’s own public health data show that the total number of two-to-four-year-olds in the city who have died from COVID since March is exactly zero. And this age group’s hospitalization rate has hovered around one-to-five cases per 100,000 – well below the overall hospitalization rate.

One could argue that due to the mask mandate in NYC, the cases and deaths were kept extremely low then :). Also the health data this author decided to cite was betwen March and April..... While his own data can be used to show the maks mandate for young kids in schools worked to reduce cases, the author decides to make the opposite conclusion...

    bias much.
