Bill Would Hold “Gun Free Zones” Liable for Losses Suffered by Gun Owners ‘If you’re going to make people give up their right to self defense, then you must defend them,’ says Minn. House rep..." A Minnesota House rep. has introduced a new bill intended to hold “gun free zones” responsible for their patrons’ safety. The new bill, House File 3051 introduced on Feb. 11 by District 23B Rep. Jeremy Munson, would make businesses that post “gun free zone” signs liable in the event a gun owner suffers a loss which could have been prevented by having their firearm. “So this law simply says if you’re going to make people give up their right to self defense, then you must defend them and you must provide security and protect them,” Rep. Munson stated in an interview describing his bill. Under the bill, property owners would “assume absolute custodial responsibility for the safety and defense of the unarmed person while the person is located on the owner’s or entity’s property that is posted with a sign prohibiting firearms.” “The responsibility of the property owner or entity for the safety and defense of any person who is otherwise authorized to carry a firearm or who is not otherwise prohibited from carrying a firearm extends to the conduct of other invitees, trespassers, employees of the person or entity, vicious animals, wild animals, and defensible man-made and natural hazards,” reads a subsection of the bill. Rep. Munson says the bill is necessary since businesses with “gun free zone” signs are basically advertising the fact that patrons are soft targets...." https://www.infowars.com/bill-would-hold-gun-free-zones-liable-for-losses-suffered-by-gun-owners/
Then again... While this bill might put some responsibility on the business/owner... you need to use your head. The owner has advertised, "this place is a soft target for any gun-toting, mass-murderous lunatic". Knowing that, perhaps it would be prudent for you to purchase your bagel and schmear elsewhere. I live in Colorado and like to fish rivers. You go into a breakfast joint at 6:00AM in a mountain town and find maybe 50% of the patrons/hunters packing a side arm. Nobody gives it a thought... and when was the last time you heard of such a place being shot up?
