I am reviewing the after hours tape for GS. At 18:30 there was a single trade for 312,021 shares at the closing price for the day 189.77.

Any idea how something like that happens? Certainly would have made the close different if the order hit the market just before the bell.

Odd. On TradeStation a trade shows there at that price, but no volume attributed to it.

Been so long since I traded stocks it was probably pre - pre and post - trading hours lol so I certainly can't help much. Shrug.

It was after the close. A lot of reconciliation occurs. or, How about a sweep to fill MOC order, that finishes off something from earlier.

I wonder who the parties are. 312K shares!

FYI - With average vol for GS = 3,206,658 the 312,021 adjustment represents approximately 10% for average trade vol.

It was a late reported dark pool trade, meaning that it didn’t happen at the time you’re seeing. My system automatically filters and discards such trades.
The price you’re showing isn’t even possible at that time because the low/high of that minute was ~$190.92.
Today 1 minute after close I see dark pool trades with the same volume and price (~312K shares between $189.69 and $189.94). Some may even be corrections to previous trades, but I didn’t dig into trade flags/conditions.
