Somehow I doubt this practice would become particularly wide-spread.

Back in my day, we called this practice "burying the dead".

  4. I explained to someone not long ago that some of the people in my region still chose to be buried at sea. He claimed that was bullfeathers, that it was just people having their ashes scattered/whatever at sea. Then a few days later I showed him an article about someone who provided that service and asked him what part of "full body burial at sea" he did not understand. He was pretty much aghast as though it had never been and is not part of the culture. Not so. Many fisherman, navy men, etc. choose that- even aside from wartime. Or maybe I should just say "some" now. You get the lefties complaining that it is contaminating the ocean or whatever.

Pretty funny, in one article- a guy who does that- said he has had to decline some because the person requesting it "did not have a signed death certificate." Never a good sign when someone shows up with a body that they want buried at sea and they do not have legal death certificate. Although that is not always as sinister as it sounds. People in rural areas especially are not always aware of the legal requirements of living and dying these days.
