Greece falls into chaos and poverty

With or without new cash, however, the endless Greek depression continues: eight years into the country’s financial crisis, life has become harder for most Greeks. Unemployment is the highest in Europe and one survey in June found that extreme poverty had risen from 2.2% of the population in 2009 to 15% – a total of 1.6 million people – last year.

But maybe the worst problem is that Greek society itself is rapidly devolving into a state of chaos. As Kathimerini reports, a series of almost daily attacks launched by self-styled anarchists against law enforcement units stationed outside the National Technical University of Athens and in the Exarchia district have placed the Greek police on full alert, bracing for the possibility of an incident-filled fall – starting with demonstrations being planned in Thessaloniki on the occasion of the International Trade Fair of Thessaloniki.

  2. Let's hope America is paying attention to Greece.

Greece is what happens when "everybody wants to live at the expense of others"... aka, "Socialism"... and politicos try to make it happen.

Adult life runs from ~20-85, or 65 years. Greeks want to work (well, sort of) for 20 years, then "retire" for the rest of their life. That is, work for 20 years, retire for 45 years. IOW... (1) you work/produce something or service for 20 years, then (2) you produce nothing for the next 45 years of your life but you somehow expect "there will be money enough for you from somewhere". How is that supposed to work out economically? And America is waaayyy to close to the Greek "model".

Greece should leave the EU, go back to the drachma and charge germans extra to vacation there.

  4. The reason Greece won't leave is that , because Greece is part of the EU, Greek government can still get mega loans.
And these loan money be funnelled into the pockets of those who make sure Greece does not leave the EU.
Some Greeks are benefitting from the greek people's misery.

  5. Almost identical to Public Unions in the United States.
It doesn't work... as bankrupt Blue cities and states all across the country are finding out.

Not one Liberal hypocrite from ET will post in this thread. Watch.

Greece, Venezuela, Argentina and now Brazil, are all recent shining examples of how dangerous Socialist policies are.

It's the fault of the idiot Greek people who voted for EU membership. Slit their own throats.
