  1. Described as "...27", 2560x1440".

Gets high marks from Tom's Hardware.

Most of the retailers sold out before Xmas, but are back in stock now.

Plus's all around... even elegant styling.

I've paid more for monitors, but this is the best display I've ever had.

I've had a couple of Planar monitors before. Excellent quality, excellent support and service.

Best price... $523 + shipping from Provantage.... bought mine there, had bought from them before. Some sellers had them at nearly $800 before Xmas.

  4. There must be a dozen different configurations of monitors using the same LG panel... and priced at least partly by features and length of warranty. Prices range from about $300 to nearly $800.

One of the features I like best is the "glass front". There is no "edge" by the bezel to collect dust. Much easier to clean. And the glass should be much more durable than the typical monitor front panel.

The display is very sharp! If you have any interest in such a monitor, check around for pricing and features.

My Planar monitor appears to "have every feature" except a stand which will allow it to rotate into portrait mode... not that I'd care to do that with this one...

Claimed minimum display life... 39,000 hours.

And I have been using my battery in Portrait mode exclusively. When you have more than one monitor, and nowadays we have those 16:9 and 16:10 gimmicks, the Portrait mode is equivalent of x2 of old format monitors without the hassle of stands and brackets and the wires.

Now.. we have a new disruptive tech coming. Already on our doorsteps under different names. I am afraid, we are not going to be able to test the 39k hours claim.

  6. How does charting and order entry look on these 27" screens? I currently work off of 24" Dells (1920 x 1200) but these 27" offer a lot more real estate. I've seen the cheap Korean ones for under $300...

Just wondering if everything would look too small compared to my 24" dells?

  7. Charts are fine, and usually you can increase the size of small text/numbers with the software. Things that apparently can't be made larger are text/icons in a browser tool bar.

Videos and all pictures are nicely sharper.

  8. Have seen these in a few different "qualities". All apparently use the same LG panel... Something like...

    1. Cheapest... may have up to 5 dead pixels and/or a bit of backlight bleeding, has only DVI... $300-$320-ish
    2. Zero Dead Pixel
    3. With speakers
    4. With front panel glass.. others use what, some sort of plastic?
    5. Stand which pivots to landscape
    6. Multiple input... VGA, DVI, HDMI, DP
All come with 1-yr warranty, I believe

Each higher quality/feature carries a higher price. The "glass panel" is like $20 extra. The "multiple input" is like $140 extra.

My Planar has "all of the features" except the pivot stand... and has 3-yr warranty. So, higher price than the ones with fewer features.

  9. Hey guys...

Any inexpensive video card that can drive this kind of resolution (2560x1440)?

  10. Just about anything these days... 2560x1600 is common. NVS 295/300 and higher NVS cards. GeForce GT models and higher. AMD FireMV 2260, FirePro 2460. Often you need Display Port for this res as much DVI is only single link, 1920x1200.
