The presumptive Republican presidential nominee today also will propose a $300 million prize for the development of a battery with sufficient capacity and power to ``leapfrog'' those that now fuel plug-in hybrids or electric cars. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601070&sid=aFZCWEWpWF3M&refer=home
And of course, you are dead wrong. Gas internal combustion engines are 20-30% efficient. Electric/battery power use almost all of the energy. In addition, battery/ultracapacitor units can reuse a lot of the braking energy, and gas engines cannot. That is why plug-ins have such a lower cost per mile. It is why hybrids get much higher mileage in the city. If all vehicles were electric and the battery storage problem was fixed, worldwide use of petroleum would be far less. electricity is at an equivalent cost of under $1/gallon. Operating traditional cars costs 10-24 cents per mile, while plug-in hybrids used for all-electric local travel and commuting would cost only 2 to 4 cents per mile.
Awesome. Who decides the winner? Just another way to send govt. money to cronies of the politicians who in return will get a cushy "job" and shares, etc. The free market does a FAR better job of compensating those whose ideas and innovation deserve it.
Wonder if he'll pay that to the existing longer life battery technology that's already been shelved: http://www.ovonic.com/al_alliances_licensees_battery.cfm
Within 20 years we'll view the ridiculous notion of filling our cars with some liquid or another as stone age. I contend that with rising the costs of service station operation, transportation of product, taxes ect. that you'd be hard pressed to buy water for your tank (stipulating that the water is shipped in-not tap water, lol) at anything less than a couple of bucks a gallon. Cars will use batteries.
Excellent Commentary, Pabst Prime .......Within 20 years we'll view the ridiculous notion of filling our cars with some liquid or another as stone age. Cars will use batteries. .................................................................................. Capitalism by default moves towards efficiency.... When one eliminates the need for secondary fuel distribution, one has made a major step towards efficiency..... Also, this type of battery is also an answer to solar based electrical production.... SMU in Texas has recently created waste heat electrical generation, and there are companies with solar mirror oil heat systems that would work well with each other..... Proper storage will add the finishing touches.... .............................................................................................. Future can come sooner than you think.....look how fast vehicle production is changing.... ...................................................................................
Awesome..that's like what we spend per day in Iraq.. Maybe if he got his war mongering head of out his arse and got us the fuck out of the Middle East, he might have a chance this election.. hahahahhaha
