Throughout the Pandemic I heard about some states over-estimating or fudging their Covid-19 deaths.

In fact, many Covidiots here at ET have stated the Covid-19 numbers are much less as their reason why there should not be any restrictions in a particular state they're debating about or country.

Yet, the CDC has recently stated the number of infections, hospitalization and deaths from Covid-19 are much higher (under-counted).

Now the story about Gov. Cuomo seems odd especially the confusing aspect of some "directive" he gave in re-admitting recovered Covid-19 patients as in +9,000 of them back to the nursing homes.

People are stating its the reason for the wild spread of the infection in N.Y. nursing homes. If they're recovered patients (no longer contagious)...how are they infecting other nursing home residences unless these re-admitted elderly back to their nursing homes were still contagious (not recovered) ???
I also remember early in the Pandemic when Trump accused N.Y. (Cuomo) doctors of labeling deaths as Covid-19 for extra aid money from the government.

If that was true, why would Cuomo hide 40 - 50% of Covid-19 deaths data when his state would have received more government aid in fighting Covid-19 during a time when he gave those daily Covid-19 press conferences...many in which he was clearly upset that his state didn't get enough government aid ??? :D

  2. Cuomo is a complete and total failure. And not just as a politician.

I’m trying to figure this out. It seems the state attorney general accused the governor of trying to hide nursing home Covid deaths because many nursing home residents that caught Covid in the nursing home actually passed away in the hospital. I don’t know if this changes the total number of Covid deaths though.

Yeah, its a confusing story to me too especially via the angle that you mention because when I first saw the story on CNN...they played a clip with the story of Cuomo stating why does it matter if the deaths are Covid-19 in the nursing home or in the hospital...

    He stated...

    It's horrible...it's deaths.

NY Dem lawmakers 'trash' Cuomo's explanation for nursing home data delay: 'No one believes you'
'No one believes you,' said New York State Sen. Jessica Ramos
    https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ny...n-nursing-home-data-delay-no-one-believes-you

New York State Democrats lashed out at Gov. Andrew Cuomo Monday following a press conference in which he made a disputed claim about his administration’s handling of requests for data on COVID-19-related deaths at nursing homes.

The governor sought to clarify his team’s actions at the press conference, telling reporters that the Department of Justice and state legislatures submitted requests for data at the same time last summer. Cuomo said his team opted to prioritize the federal inquiry and informed state lawmakers their request for data would be "paused" in the meantime.

"We gave precedence to the DOJ. We told the assembly that, we told the Senate that and that's what we did. We were also in the midst of managing a pandemic," Cuomo said at the press conference.

Cuomo said any disconnect between his office and state lawmakers was the result of a "breakdown in communication between the staff and members of the legislature." But several Democratic lawmakers, including New York State Sen. Jessica Ramos, denied that Cuomo’s office ever informed them of its decision.

"Trash. No one believes you," Ramos wrote on Twitter.

"At no point did the Administration notify the legislature about a DOJ investigation," she added. "People died and Cuomo lied then he had the gall to write a book."

Ramos is one of several state Democratic lawmakers who have called for Cuomo to be stripped of his emergency powers for his mishandling for the nursing home data. Last week, the Associated Press reported that Cuomo’s administration significantly underreported nursing home deaths, and the New York Post published a leaked transcript of a call in which a top Cuomo aide seemingly admitted his office withheld data out of a concern that it could be used in a federal investigation.

New York State Sens. Alessandra Biaggi and Gustavo Rivera, both Democrats, also took aim at Cuomo’s remarks. Both lawmakers said they first learned of the DOJ’s probe into New York nursing home deaths in local newspapers, not from the governor’s office.

"No, @NYGovCuomo, you did not tell the *entire* Senate or Assembly that there was a DOJ investigation, as the reason why you didn't share the nursing home numbers," Biaggi said on Twitter. "I found out about a DOJ investigation with the rest of NY'ers in the @nypost story Thursday night."

Representatives for New York State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, a Democrat, also pushed back on Cuomo’s claim.

Cuomo asserted that state legislatures were "wrong" to suggest they were never informed about the delay for their data request. The governor expressed regret over the delays in releasing data, admitting the requests "should have been prioritized."

"The void we created misinformation and created more anxieties for the families of loved ones," he said.

Cuomo has repeatedly denied that his office withheld or misrepresented data relating to nursing home deaths.

I watched the press conference from start to finish...often became lost in his explanation.

Yet, I still couldn't determine why folks are mad about him giving instructions about "recovered Covid-19 elderly patients" to be returned back to their nursing homes. Seriously, if you're recovered...you're no longer contagious...right ???
    • Also, from what we know today, a recovered Covid-19 patient has some sort'uv short-term immunity of a few months at the minimum.
In addition, couldn't determine why folks are mad under-counting Covid-19 deaths when during the Pandemic...he often had "complained" that it was being under-counted and was angry that Trump was accusing N.Y. of fudging the numbers in showing excessive Covid-19 deaths for extra aid money from the Government.

In fact, I remember one particular Covid-19 conference in 2020 which he was very angry at Trump when he stated the "data does not show..." that they actually had "more Covid-19 deaths" and they deserved more government financial help.

Today, now they are bitching that he was under-counting 40 - 50% Covid-19 deaths...

Something does not add up with this story.

So I’ve been trying to read up on this and what I get isn’t very clear but the issue seems to be around identifying nursing home residents not being identified as such when they passed in the hospital.

    Sad situation.
