50 G.O.P. Officials Warn Donald Trump Would Put Nation’s Security ‘at Risk’

Fifty of the nation’s most senior Republican national security officials, many of them former top aides or cabinet members for President George W. Bush, have signed a letter declaring that Donald J. Trump “lacks the character, values and experience” to be president and “would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being.”

Mr. Trump, the officials warn, “would be the most reckless president in American history.”

The letter says Mr. Trump would weaken the United States’ moral authority and questions his knowledge of and belief in the Constitution. It says he has “demonstrated repeatedly that he has little understanding” of the nation’s “vital national interests, its complex diplomatic challenges, its indispensable alliances and the democratic values” on which American policy should be based. And it laments that “Mr. Trump has shown no interest in educating himself.”

“None of us will vote for Donald Trump,” the letter states, though it notes later that many Americans “have doubts about Hillary Clinton, as do many of us.”

Among the most prominent signatories are Michael V. Hayden, a former director of both the C.I.A. and the National Security Agency; John D. Negroponte, who served as the first director of national intelligence and then deputy secretary of state; and Robert B. Zoellick, another former deputy secretary of state, United States trade representive and, until 2012, president of the World Bank. Two former secretaries of homeland security, Tom Ridge and Michael Chertoff, also signed, as did Eric S. Edelman, who served as Vice President Dick Cheney’s national security adviser and as a top aide to Robert M. Gates when he was secretary of defense...

    Cue the RINO aspersions.

  3. Neo-con role call.

These are the morons who bumbled us into the Iraq and Afghanistan quagmires, who thought bailing out the Emir of Kuwait was a good idea and who negotiated some of those horrible trade deals.

I am disappointed George Bush himself hasn't joined Romney in trying to backstab Trump. That just might have been enough to push Trump over the top.

Win or lose, the republican party is not going to be the same.

When Trump loses, what will he do? I ask that in sincerity because he does wield political power. Does he run for the Senate? How will he involve himself in politics? Or was this just a one-off?

If Clinton loses, no one would be surprised if she continued her political career serving and being a champion for her causes.

    Nitro,

Hillary Clinton armed Isis in Libya and Syria. The NSA released hillarys 30,000 emails to wikileaks. The bathroom server had Americas NOC list on it - comprehensive list of Americas spies. This is gamma level security classification. Foreign powers had open access to that server and shortly thereafter many American spies in the Middle East were killed.

Maybe instead of obsessing about trump all day, you should turn that magnifine glass on Hillary and take a closer look at the candidate you support.

Clinton is an imperfect candidate. I can't even tell if Trump is sane, and apparently neither can a huge portion of highly respected people in his own party.

I am not one to follow simply to be in the majority to give me comfort. There are a few things that Trump brings that strike a note with me. Sadly, it is so drowned out by the rest of his overwhelming shortcomings that at this point it is pathetic. He has been reduced to a child and castrated to reading a prompter - the equivalent of being fed through a straw. The guy doesn't even sound genuine when reading a prompter. He sounds like an anal retentive imbecile reading script.

I suspect Trump drops out as Clinton gets to 15 or 20 points in the lead. If he stays in it until the end and takes his medicine when he gets spanked, I will give him credit for being a man. But I doubt he wins 15 states.

The real question you guys should be asking yourselves is, what on earth are you going to do to restructure your party because you are in grave danger of going the way of the do-do bird. Every four years the republicans put up a bigger asshole than the last one. On a positive note, you can't find bigger assholes than Trump, so like the alcoholic, the republican party has hit bottom.

The only guy that has any chance of winning the heart of a Democrat is Kasich.

You must be talking about the radical left wing of Trump's party (the GOP is his party now).

Reading some history lately, i learned that the Barnburners were a radical right wing of the Democratic party, the party of Jackson and slavery back in the late 1820's and beyond. The Barnburners were against slavery (for abolition), much to the chagrin of the mainstream of the Democratic party, which included Jackson, a slave owner and Indian fighter/hater.

The radical left wing of Trump's party, including Paul Ryan, would extend slavery to every state, by even more stupid policy that mimics a Democratic agenda. These people are Republican IN NAME ONLY...so, who cares about the Barnburners?

You ignored everything I said. Clinton armed terrorists/Isis in Libya and Syria. Her bathroom server led to the outting of American spies. Many American spies in the Middle East were murdered because of her

And you're fixated on trump. And you say he's the one with mental problems. My friend open your eyes. Hillary armed Isis. What is wrong with you

I read every word you wrote. It is you who is so blinded by either Clinton or Democrats in general that normal circuit breakers in your brain aren't functioning properly. No one with any self-respect would be seen let alone vote for Trump for the highest office in the US. But I suspect close to 40,000,000 people will. That is the signal.

Clinton might be Lucifer disguised as Clinton. The difference is,no one in her party is signing documents to the effect. Whereas huge number of people on both sides are gravely concerned about Trump. Common Sense. Occams' Razor. The wisdom of crowds. Etc. You are very likely the same handle arguing with futurecurrents on global warming because you are displaying similar delusional blindness to facts here as the usual suspects are there.

But don't worry you will get your crazy man one day. I believe that the US is going to hurting so bad in the coming decade that like in 1930s Germany people will be so desperate they will choose a Trump-like candidate. All you need to do is convince another 15 to 20 million more people, and you get your wish.

    But not today.
