I have an Android (Google) phone. I was eating lunch today and the restaurant had free wifi....Nice time to check Drudge Report or CNBC I thought...I clicked the power button to bring the screen back to life, just like I have done thousands of times before. I don't know what I did different but I looked down at the screen and there was a white box telling me I was resetting to factory settings. No, I did not want to do that. A second after I saw it, the screen changed over to a little green Android man who was not so cute today. The green man said I was ERASING. I tried swiping to the right, left, up and down. I tried cutting the power off and I tried squeezing the volume buttons. I tried yelling at it under my breath. I did not want to be rude in public. No matter how many times I squeezed the power button, it would not shut off. And to add insult to injury, it took about 5 minutes to erase. It was like death by a thousand cuts, seeing the erase function and not being able to do anything about it. It reset to factory settings and l lost all my APPS, my phone log and all my personal settings on the phone. I got home and reset the phone and the most popular phone numbers I could recall. I breathed a sigh of relief and returned to my laptop. I decided to clear the history which I had not done for 2,3 days. At the top, it said I was logged in to my cell phone. I know that can be done, I was doing it before. But I don't like that much connectivity in my life and I don't think it is safe. If someone finds my cell phone then they can see my browsing history for my laptop and potentially see any open windows, personal information etc... I deleted it before. I wanted to do it again. I went online and tried to find out how to do it because working independently was not working for me. But...........everything was still working.......which will make sense in a few lines. I found instructions for removing the sync between my cell phone and laptop. It must have been for a different Windows version or Google Chrome version because I followed the instructions and I lost everything. I lost all my bookmarks ( about 100) the way my home page was set up, my ad blockers and popup blockers, I had to reset chrome as my search engine and retab yahoo. It was like resetting a new computer. I tried to import my bookmarks but nothing was there. I eventually figured out how to remove the sync with my cell phone. All I had to do was go to settings and log out of google................I figured that out when I was setting the laptop back up. It's been a rough day and it was not Monday or Friday the 13th. But......is there anything I can do to get back my bookmarks?
find a computer that was also synced to chrome. Disconnect internet access prior to turning it on boot, open chrome / bookmarks manager / organize / export bookmarks to html file Then attempt import if you do not have any add'l computers or phones synced you may be SOL personally, I do a monthly bookmark HTML export - Lost my bookmarks years ago, understand the pain, hence the religious weekly AWS-S3 and monthly AWS-Glacier backup's of all sensitive Data and Bookmarks. You can also try this (REQUIRES YOU NOT CLOSING CHROME) May already be too late, but worth a shot
I am assuming you have an IPhone. Are you happy with it? Mine is a little over 2 years old. It's time for a new one anyhow. ---- Thanks for the suggestions No Bias. I read your link and tried everything they suggested, but there was nothing there. The link recommends not closing Chrome in order to recover the bookmarks, but I had already done that a couple of times. It's a nuisance but I can rebuild them slowly.....I never used 90 percent of them anyhow. I just bookmarked them 'just in case' I wanted to refer back to them. I am probably better off without so many anyhow.
Sorry you went through this. Here's my guess as to what happened. You left your phone on and it was bouncing around in your pocket/purse whatever. By some fluke, this bouncing around resulted in 10 failed pin attempts. http://androidforums.com/threads/ph...ctory-if-incorrect-pin-enter-10-times.863223/ I have had similar crazy requests appear on my iPhone, although usually its nothing more than a pocket call to my most recently dialed phone number.
You must accidentay pressed specific buttons (power, sound) in specific combination. bad idea. You should restore the phone first then start cleaning laptop If you lost than you lost and you will not be abe to restore. Windows and Chrome versions has nothing to do with it. You have made a decition to clean history and you removed synch. I guess somewhere in the process you just cleaned everything. If you have your bookmark on your laptop, then you should be able to synch your laptop to your cellphone. But you have to activate your synch back on both laptop and cell phone. If you recet you phone to factory default and clean everything on your laptop then ou lost everything.
This is why its better to pay more and get a quality phone. I finally decided to jump into the whole smartphone era and swapped my flipphone for an Apple 6s plus and it is really nice. Definitely would last me 5 years easy.
Yeah, I may have butt dialed it'. I have done it before, but not like this. But, I don't have a pin on my phone. I have one for messages, but not to open it and dial in. I know a few people that do that but I don't. Maybe I should. Thanks.
Yeah, I lost everything. I have a spare laptop (the one I was using before this one) so maybe I should be backing things up on that one from now on. It makes a lot more sense now. Thanks !
PRobably it was something like virus or adware or something like that ? Where do you really have any stuff cause of it really ? I do not see anything which could help for now, but have you tried to remember which sites you really visit lately ?
