If you are serious and want to learn, go read a book, for example Larry McMillan, Options as a Strategic Investment which I read before I started trading options.

And as the other posters said there are a number of free websites you can read/watch to learn how to and the basics. I would visit CBOE's website and their free education section if I were you.

  6. Understanding Options, Michael Sincere.

It is well written in a style that anyone can understand and follow.

He has examples for every topic that he introduces and he illustrates them with a sense of humor.

The man is a Business professor and his daily association with young/new students helps him write in a manner that is easily understood.

And the best part about it is that it's only $11. I would start here first.

For a sound foundation, read "Options as a Strategic Investment" by Lawrence G. McMillan. It's well written with many clear examples. 100 pages or so will give you a fundamental understanding of covered calls, short puts and spread. It also explains a variety of other option strategies and should they intrigue you, you can read more.

You can get a used copy of the 3rd edition online for under $10 and under $5 for an even older edition (Thriftbooks.com). There's no need to spend $75 or so for the latest edition (1,000+ pages) since it involves more complex products and strategies. Well, at least not until they become of interest to you.

Along with that, spend some time a Tastytrade.com. That will help with the practical application of options once you have learned the language.
