Its just something for the democrats to try to make themselves feel good about. After all the losing they did at the hands of Obama, then need anything they can get to cling on. This race means absolutely nothing when it comes to passing legislation.
The race is a proxy on if the Democratic strategy of pouring money into districts which lean slightly Republican while pushing an anti-Trump message will work for 2018.
No it isn't. This is an off year election and money is available. In 2018 they are not going to have the luxury to do the massive outspending that they are doing in Georgia. There are too many races.
In the 2018 election is the Democratic party going to pour money into districts that are safely Democratic? No They are using this to define their money strategy and messaging for 2018 in close districts.
Actually the strategy of maximizing direct donations from out of state individuals (and PACs) while minimizing national Democratic funds steered to the district while using the national party infrastructure to contact donors and urge them to give in a totally different state is somewhat new in this particular race for Democrats. This race is also a test of the anti-Trump messaging.
The race has been the most expensive house race in history. There is simply not enough money to match this effort in every close House race in 2018. The democrats are a defeated party. They have not been this badly beaten in 100 years. Some claim that they should not even be considered a national party. They need to grasp anything they can. That is why they are outspending the Republicans so much in this race.
The republican candidate has apparently avoided the immigration issue, a curious decision which likely will cost her the election. She is an establishment Jeb Bush/Mitt Romney type who listens to the Chamber of Commerce and consultants rather than voters.
