Was there this week end. It's definitely attractive tax wise but I am not sure for the "quality of life" stuff. Anytime you cross the border with your car, you face a potential 3 hour queue to come back in... Marbella for partying is still at 70 kms, Tarifa and its beaches are at 40 kms, all the rest is a desert. The first large city, Algeciras, is really industrial with refineries .... And density of population is really high on the Rock. You mustn't be clostrophobic.
+1 Gibraltar is 2.6sqm according to the article, been there and found it *very* claustrophobic. Most streets are very narrow and the few public playgrounds, beaches don't look as clean as could be expected from a rich territory, especially such a small one. Border crossing seems quite ugly when relations with spain get tensed. The trick seems to be to register there and live elsewhere, starting with Spain. I like neither the beach life nor the overbuilding of spanish coast but Marbella doesn't seem unpleasant with plenty of services geared to the expats and a somehow upmarket scene in Puerto Banus. One ETposter at least is living in Gibraltar, I think he wrote almost every (succesful I guess) trader in Gibraltar has a house in Spain - he didn't specify wether they really live in Gib or Spain but I guess everyone has a proper trading set up in his spanish house.
Traders living in Spain are coming back to Gib right now because spanish tax authorities are studying gibraltarians situations and estates... There are also some good things there. I liked the atmosfear on monday( Main Street gets lively ), people are really nice and there are some good trading floors with real professional traders to discuss with... I also find the population to create a good melting pot between fully tatooed seafarers, jews with kippas, spanish workers, nerdy gaming industry types, bankers in suits... I found it nice...LOL
Hi. Interesting. Am actually looking at how to set up a "private fund" in Gibraltar (potentially, ie offshore), does anyone have experience with this? Alternatively, are there trading prop shops in Gibraltar at the moment? I know a star trader started there trading the Bobl etc, currently at Tudor Corp.
