I was looking through my book portfolio to see if I could find any shortened words with apostrophes in them to edit them, when I found out that the majority of the time that they appeared were in the published articles I have written. Statistically, if my articles are anything to go by, when you use shortened words or less formal language it is more likely to be published than technical or formal language when submitting an article to a publisher. Perhaps George Orwell is right his second and fifth rules.
