  2. A bit surprised they would be so truthful and admit it.

I've always thought most jobs can be automated. I saw it first hand in my industry. With ai automate faster.

Working from home you can do what the hell you want between meetings as long as you get your work done on time and to a good standard, who cares?

    Mediocrity is your default standard.

  6. So agree with this! The war against working from home makes zero sense. If your productivity is at least what it was in the office, and this can be easily measured, then working from home or in the office is irrelevant. A lot of people I assume can be much more productive at home, as they don't have 10 people stopping by their desk every hour. But it doesn't really matter the subjective views, corporations have very easy ways to measure productivity and if you are productive at home you should be able to work from home. The culture argument is terrible too. Corporate cultures are SO SO toxic. Believe me, there's no culture building in office for most companies, it's just bitter backstabbing and abuse of others.

Interesting that it was roughly half!

Roughly half of workers get below average pay for any role, so that will be a big reason why so many won't be motivated.

The film Office space comes to mind:

"It's not that i'm lazy, it's just that I don't care, It's a problem of motivation, if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime."

"So where's the motivation? ... the fear of losing my job, but y'know it will only make someone work hard enough not to get fired."

And he not just being hyperbolic when he says 'only fifteen minutes of real work in a week', I seen plenty of software developers do even less than that!

  8. Jack Welch - a guy who actually managed to MAKE sthg great again, General Electric that became the largest market cap company in the world under him, so a guy who actually walked the talk, and not waste everybodys time spouting a lot of empty hot air as seems to be the favourite flavor of these times we live in, was famous for only giving a damn about results.

I knew one of his former lieutenants - who'd gone on to teach at Uni in his old age - and remember him often repeating that Welch couldn't have cared less if his top performers spent most of their time playing golf or sailing as long as they, err, performed.

Not sure the issue revolves only around getting the actual workload done as being in office
also helps with mental aspect of changing the scenery, developing social and communication skills, meeting people, career networking etc. Watching tv shows and texting emojis all day is questionable replacement, imho

He fired thousands at GE, focused on short term quarterly earnings, and turned GE in more of a financial firm by the end... ultimately its downfall
