Here you will occasionally find price action trading notes and ideas, in hindsight of course. Gee, I wish I could trade in real-time! You ainât gonna get any nouveau, amandine, thin crust, bottled water, sauteed city food. Foodâs brown, hot, and plenty of it. Flame on!
This looks like the start of someting that could become an interesting thread. The area after your first "bastard" bar coincided for me as the previous HOD support. Price coiled up on that and took off. (just sharing my view on that) I was wondering if there is any specific reason you use the 4 min timeframe (or bar interval) ? Do you mind telling anything about what the trigger is to make your volume bars colour ? (just tell me if I'm being a bit too curious here ) Just asking since I don't really use volume myself but am interested to learn something about that. JP
First, thanks for the civil, coherent, curiosity driven conversation JP. A rarity among many threads. 4min bars are nothing special. For me they came to be for 2 reasons... One, I have a preference for multiples of 2. But mostly, it had to do with regular trading hours and computers. No history lesson here, but 9:30 to 16:10 is 100 bars. With older version software and equipment, that made programming less troublesome. Besides, 4 is a Lucas number and it also lets me frontrun all the 5min traders! 2min is my scalp bar. As for the volume bars... it's a custom creation based in VSA (Volume Spread Analysis). The coloring denotes supply and demand situations. What got me about the bastard bar was NQ acting alone. The other indexes were making fresh LOD at the same time with the same sort of bastard bars! I use Market Profile for much of my price level analysis. MP was not very useful for NQ, as would be expected during development of price levels in new territory. In the indexes, it's a weakness of mine right now given where all are trading. Trade On!
Nice write-up. I traded this yesterday, look at the 11:38 bar. Throw the least lagging MA (zero lag MA or close to it as possible, Kalman, JMA, HMA, Tillson whatever) on the NQ and you would have caught the turn earlier. (and with your pitchfork med failure for confirm). NQ likes to run like a scalded cat when ES is just back & fill. It caught the bottom for an exit. +chart points for 'pedantically' are you trying to tell us something? casuist, doctrinaire, dogmatist, hairsplitter, literalist, nit-picker (informal) pedagogue, pettifogger, precisian, quibbler, scholastic, sophist
I wish to enter this trade analyzing horizon but it would be difficult looks like. I should think again.
