when using laptops for trading.(especially people who scalp) is there any testing on gaming laptops vs regular ones when it comes to wifi adapter?
obviously for gaming ping matters alot in pvp. gaming laptops come better wifi but does it actually matter for scalping or any other type of fast paced trading that relies on ping low.

First question: what does your connction to your broker looks like? If you already have 1-2 s latency on executing a trade via IB then worrying about wifi latency is almost redundant.

where would i see that info?
can i assume that if trading platform offers tick by tick and one second interval they would have good latency?

Unless trading automated it probably is redundant anyway.

The delay between Wifi compared to wired is probably much smaller than the time your brain needs to process and react to stuff happening anyway.

really not about the pings but connectivity, you got “data disconnected” alerts few dozen times a day, trading app will try to reconnect but it is still a hassle.

I am often trading via Wifi and haven't had this issue in many months. Indeed, quality of the connection is important as well.

Do a ping test to a server near where your brokers servers are located.

Tick and second data have nothing to do with latency.

  8. The problem with WIFI is that it might drop packets around your local router even at the starting point of the connection, regardless of how reliable the ISP is. There are many factor why your WIFI might drop packets and that is expected.

Main reason for packet losses: https://www.ir.com/guides/what-is-network-packet-loss

You can try a reliability test on this page for your connection: https://packetstats.com/

If you need a highly reliable connection you should get rid of WIFI all together and get a good RJ-45 cable, your connection will improve that way.

Zero ping? Can you back that up with a ping test?
