Gallup Shows Obama Is Wrong About Immigration 10:46 AM 06/29/2014 by Neil Munro Only one-in-five Americans want to see additional immigration, while two-in-five Americans want less immigration, says a new Gallup poll. The June 27 Gallup poll helps to explain why the GOPâs rejected the media-touted lobbying push for the Senateâs June 2013 immigration-boosting bill. Progressives and business groups have spent at least $1.5 billion since 2008 pushing for increased immigration, and routinely insist that the public supports their version of âcomprehensive immigration reform.â That version was approved last June by the Senate, and it would double the inflow of guest-workers and legal immigrants up to roughly 4 million per year. âThe majority of the American people want to see immigration reform done,â Obama insisted during in June 27 interview with ABCâs Good Morning America. But thereâs no evidence for Obamaâs claim. Even among Democratic respondents, only 27 percent want increased immigration, said the Gallup survey of 1,027 respondents. Thatâs actually less than the percentage of Democrats who want it reduced, which is 32 percent, according to Gallup. Only 23 percent of independents want immigration increased, while 43 percent want it to be reduced, said the new Gallup. Fourteen percent of GOP voters want immigration increased, while 50 percent want it reduced. Roughly one-third of independents and GOP supporters say they want immigration to remain level, suggesting theyâre not very concerned with the issue. The new Gallup poll matches many other independent surveys. For example, a 2012 Pew Research showed that 69 percent of independents and 59 percent of Hispanics say âWe should restrict and control people coming to live in our country more than we do now.â A March 2014 poll by the Washington Post showed that independent swing-voters would vote against a legislator who backed amnesty for illegals by 41 percent to 28 percent. Even Hispanics oppose greater immigration, despite the concurrent sympathy with their co-ethnics south of the border. In June 2013, only 25 percent of Hispanics wanted immigration increased, according to a February 2014 Gallup poll. Thirty percent of Hispanics wanted immigration reduced, and 43 percent wanted it to stay level. However, actual election-day support for more immigration may be far lower than even these polls show. Americans who want immigration reform are mostly Americans who want the border sealed... not amnesty. The leftists were misrepresenting those that were calling for immigration reform as being in favor of amnesty. it was typically leftist b.s.... coupled with a lying media and lying establishment republicans. Finally a reasonable poll. How many Americans are like sure... lets depress our wages, increase our taxes and have massive inflation. Nobody who works for a living wants that, I do not care what country you are from.
The pro amnesty polls were skewed by loaded questions. We all know what will really happen. There will be an immediate manesty, millions will try to breach our borders to take part and Obama will let them all in and ignore any restrictions congress imposes. The poll and reform in general make absurd assumptions. For example, that people already living here illegally will voluntarily pay fines, etc. Why should they? Nothing has happened to them so far and the democrats are promising them that nothing will happen to them. Our system isn't broken. It just isn't being enforced. I understand there is a need for seasonal agricultural workers in some areas. If we had border security and functioning laws, we could have passed something to deal with that, but it's impossible now. For one thing, amnesty advocates won't hear of it if the workers are forced to go home after their job is over. They liken it to slavery. And why would they ever agree to anything if they think they can get full amnesty either through laws or King Obama just ignoring the law?
On top of securing the border, we need to remove ALL incentives for coming here illegally. Because right now, the incentives are like a pile of sugar on a lawn in the summer.
right ---- this was the final nail in the coffin --- Boehner Ryan and team establishment sellout could no longer lie to the rest of the caucus about amnesty being good for the party... even hispanics don't want increased immigration. The size and frequency of the lies coming out of the media and the establishment politicians on this issue was breathtaking. I am thinking about all the sobs on all the news showing talking about how the tea party is destroying the country because _________% of the country wants increased immigration and amnesty and all that crap. They were just lying their asses off and even the fox moderators seem to let them get away with that fraud. This is the country... the tea party are the same as most union workers... the economy sucks and we don't need a bigger drain on the govt and depressed wages... We need lower taxes and an economy growing good jobs... then we will talk about work permits and maybe even a path... to citizenship if you eliminate the income tax.
No amnesty, seal the borders, and no guest worker programs. People need to realize that a guest worker program is a back door form of amnesty. Guest workers are going to have kids while working in the U.S.. Even if they are forced to leave after the termination of their work contracts, they will eventually be petitioned back in by their American-born kids when these anchor babies reach legal age. The kids petition the parents, the parents petition their other kids, and before you know it the whole clan is here eating burritos. Should the parents decide to overstay, don't expect their offspring to eventually follow in their footsteps and carve out a career picking lettuce. These kids will start overcrowding our schools, overwhelm our healthcare system, and cause our prison population to explode. In the meantime, more guest workers will need to be imported to replace the existing ones that decided to retire or those that simply decided to go underground and find another line of work. This guest worker program, if implemented, will create a vicious cycle, one where taxpayers will always come out on the losing end. Again - no amnesty, seal the borders, and no guest worker programs in any way, shape, or form.
That is pretty much what has happened with existing guest worker programs. The "guests" never go home. Then we are told that they have been here so long, it would be inhumane to send them back. Or their children. Then more come.
I find it unbelievable how some Republicans are so naive about this so-called "guest worker" program being floated by the Democrats. They are totally being played by the Dems. Marco Rubio should know better. Then again, I don't think this fellow's really that bright anyway.
My thoughts on the subject is after the borders are sealed tight... there will be a demand for workers ag workers. If not... then no need for a guest worker program. First seal the borders... get people to work... and then deal with things strategically.
