Was wondering if someone could tell me how it is determined which month is the front one for Gold. Financial websites such as Bloomberg, showing Dec., however you have Aug, Sept, & Oct all currently trading??????

    Thanks in advance.

  2. The contract with the greatest daily trading volume right now-----August. August's open interest will gradually "roll forward" into the December contract before the end of July.

  3. active gold months: GJMQVZ

roll is usually around the 22nd of month prior to delivery month

    Avid,

I've got them as GJMQZ, no V. In other words Feb, Apr, Jun, Aug, Dec.

  5. i must have that wrong. haven't traded an Oct zg yet. those moths came off an excel file guide to continuous contract rolls from tradestation. now that i look closer, the V is in a diff color on that sheet for whatever reason. my error

i also see notes that the last roll was 1st notice day, not 22nd prior

CBOT mini gold has contracts for sept & oct. Why would those not be the new front month instead of Dec. ???? Does the floor trade in sept & oct.?

  7. I forgot the reason why ... but trust me on this one

in the next day or so or by early next week

take a look at the volume of those months versus

DECEMBER gold ... you will see that the majority of the volume
and tightest spreads will be here
