But according to Doocy, Trump would take any Democratic congressional offer that was two billion or higher. Given Fox & Friends very cozy relationship with the White House, and that Deputy Communications Director Bill Shine oversaw Fox News programming as recently as a year and a half ago, it is completely reasonable to think that Doocy’s reporting is not just very well sourced, but perhaps floated to send a signal that Democrats can wrap this up with a much lesser number. Some may see this as a savvy negotiating tactic, while others will see it as an act of desperation. Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer have little political motivation to change their zero-negotiation position, particularly since Trump opened this political stalemate by owning the government shutdown in a televised Oval Office meeting that kicked this whole thing off.
