Technically it's just a runway. They have good surface quality and with long straights they're perfect for jets.
Exactly, yet, i was surprised by it. Blind spot. Even after seing it in movies. In a day or less, whole country can be diversified/turned into one big airport.
Finns have been preparing for a Russian invasion for many many decades. They have required malls to have basements that double as bomb shelters, majority of the population can literally go underground fairly quickly. Then there's the liberal gun policy, expect most people outside of major cities to have a rifle.
In Sweden we have a lot of conspicious wide long perfectly straight roads in the forests since the Cold war as well. Although the government destroyed almost all kinds of readiness for war in the late 90s and early 00s (e.g. cement filling or selling bunker complexes) the roads remain for obvious reasons.
IDD. It's pretty ironic how just one decade after the peak of Swedish demilitarization there was Putin's 2014 incursion, and less than two decades after that we have the Ukraine war/maybe WW3. Apparently similar misplaced 'readiness' was achieved in WW1 and then again in WW2 (by pure luck Sweden did not directly have to fight in either) so nobody here learns from history.
Yup, some ,,exotic" countries up there in the north. Wonder, how many more, little nations like that, could be born, if the Rus empire would loose it's power grip, some time in the future.
