How do you deal with feeling of regret in trading? For instance, I had a day where I made a tiny profit, closed down the platform feeling annoyed the market did not realise my scenario for despite the fact I waited for it so long, only to come back later and see it has done exactly what I expected. Had I stuck to my guns I would have made a lot of money. I was really pissed off. How to deal with "would have, could have, should have" in trading?
Just follow your trading rules with perfect flawless execution. But also know your trading rules will miss a lot of profits as no set of rules will catch every big move. Obviously if you dont follow your rules with perfect flawless execution then you will have a lot of regret every time your failure to do so misses a big move. Hopefully that will make you more disciplined in the future.
You should learn that a single day does not mean anything, as long as you keep the losses under managable control. The year has about 250 trading days. Some of those will be exceptional good. Some will be exceptional shitty. Thats just the way it is. It is part of the game, learn to deal with it. What counts is that you made money for the week, the month, the year.
If you followed your rules, then there is no regret. What the market does outside your rules is not your concern with respect to your current system, as long as your rules allow you to survive. Separately, you can look at your trades and tweak the _rules_ afterwards, not during. It sounds like you did fine, so no regret.
Just think it could be worse. Just as much as the market continues to go your original intended direction, it could very well reverse and go the other way and if you had not tp'ed, your profit would've been all wiped out and turned into a loss, a huge loss even. If you feel you tp way too early too much too often, then you just might need to go back to the drawing board and rework your trading strategy. Meanwhile enjoy your small profit and celebrate the fact that you at least landed in the green; a lot of people didn't. Always look at the bright side of everything and try to work to make it brighter for the next time.
WELCOME TO TRADING you literally just naile "IT" the secret sauce the holy grail.. i feel that everyday and it is powerful. having a system to enter..(not mechanical) and a system to exit (not mechanical) but it can be mechanical will help a bunch.
%% Southall is right Lucas. Print off many 10 year charts+ some smaller weekly charts. If i wanted to have max frustration, could focus on smaller time frames .And lack of dividends or dividends can provide a clue...... Good question
