RALEIGH, N.C. — In another setback for Attorney General Eric Holder, Federal Judge, Thomas Schroeder from the Middle District of NC, denied a preliminary motion to enjoin the State Board of Elections’ implementation of new voting laws enacted in August 2013. (Download the 125-page text of order by clicking here). “Dredging up North Carolina’s shameful Jim Crow past is largely irrelevant in 2014″ said Jay DeLancy, Director of the Voter Integrity Project, “especially when our state’s population has doubled in population because of people who came from states that already require voter ID.” In addition to AG Holder, the plaintiffs included NAACP, League of Women Voters, Common Cause, and several other plaintiffs who had petitioned the court to delay implementation of the state’s new elections procedures. Judge Schroeder also denied a Defendant (State of NC) motion to dismiss the suit in its entirety. A key reason that would have allowed Judge Schroeder to delay the law’s implementation would have been some sort of demonstrable harm to the voters of North Carolina,” said Jay DeLancy, “but they apparently failed to demonstrate harm to the voters of North Carolina.” The ruling included this assessment on page 123: “In the absence of the clear showing for preliminary relief required by the law, it is inappropriate for a federal court to enjoin a State law passed by duly-elected representatives.” The full trial will be in Winston-Salem and is scheduled for July of 2015. http://voterintegrityproject.com/federal-judge-denies-holder/
Voter ID laws are bad because they make it harder to commit vote fraud, which is a go-to strategy for democrats in close races. And before any of the resident morons pipe up and say there is no vote fraud, it takes place generally in areas run by democrat machines, so they aren't very likely to go looking for it. It's interesting that groups that pretend to be non-partisan like the League of (Liberal) Women Voters and Coomon (Liberal) Cause backed the suit. I guess electing democrats is more important to them than honest elections.
I understand why conservatives think they are bad. I'm wondering what common sense arguments liberals try to use when they go against voter ID laws.
yeah, i heard a couple of liberal intesectualls on tv one time saying that they know voter id laws are about race because there are no prosecutions of voter fraud that warrant the laws. Therefore it must be republicans trying to deny blacks a vote. One big unvirtuous circle. Holder's people won't prosecute and then their jermalists have an excuse to call it racism.
%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%% Common sense arguments like a poor person may not have an exspensive drivers liscense in TN; so unfair.Problem with that is TN Dept of Trans will issue a free id to anyone. So Mr Holder should be fired, as ACLJ[ACLJ versus IRS] says........................................................................................
I've heard the driver's license BS before, and it's just that - BS. Get a free state ID. Bring your social security card (free from the government), etc.
