The Libra association is changing its name – Libra is no more, welcome Diem. Diem means “day” in Latin – the association seeks for this to be a fresh start before the currency launches in early 2021. Back when Facebook first announced Libra it was supposed to be a stablecoin backed by various currencies globally, but there was massive backlash against this idea. So now Diem will be a single dollar-pegged stablecoin. The new name is a symbolic gesture signifying the Association’s wish to placate regulators. It also released a statement, according to which the Association remains committed to maintaining the integrity of the financial system. Does this name make you think of "carpe diem"? Because it sure did me. Let's see how appropriate that will be when it launches.
There was a DIEM coin and DIEM v2 coin (sha256 pow), I mined millions of them traded for a few bitcoins, fun times getting early on those coin launches, mid-2014
It was pretend backlash (imo). My opinion was the facebook coin was going to launch even when many was saying it was dead. https://elitetrader.com/et/threads/...gle-currency-stablecoins.344113/#post-5088253 The rich, elite and powerful need their servants, I don't think politicians have our best interests.
