Hello There, I am an electronic and software engineer, been programming for the last 15 years and has strong skills in several languages incl. C/C++, SQL, Python, VB, C# and so on... For the last 8 years I've been trading stocks on long position (3 year+) on Nasdaq and NYSE and it has been a good success so far. From long time I've been interested about more complex short term intradey stock trading and particularly where my skills could help which is the automated trading, but having limited experience so far I need to go through the learning process which will certainly take some time. In order to get up to speed quicker, I'm looking for a - or several person that would be interested in some experience exchange, tips and guidance. I've of course tons of question so I'm not going at this stage write them all here, but looking more for exchange with experienced people in trading. In return I can provide my own experience / expertise in programming, why not working together on strategies and codes and team up. (I'm not asking for your strategies, but discussion about good / bad ideas, basic concept and so on). Originally from Europe and currently located in Asia so timezone needs to be considered. Cheers
Curious to know your reasons for choosing stocks. The plurality of execution venues adds complexity and costs. How about futures? (more leverage, better tax treatment, fewer order types) You might enjoy Rob Carver's blog http://qoppac.blogspot.com/
Sorry, that was a typo. I meant any financial tools and haven't made any decision yet at this point. Thank you for the blog, I'll have further reading.
With stocks you have many, many potential opportunities. It really depends on the type of trading you are doing. Damien - I too am a professional programmer and I trade and invest my own money using systematic strategies and my own developed tools. I'm based in the UK and happy to chat.
