The Energy Crisis In Europe Is So Bad That Some People Are Thinking Of Using Horse Poop To Heat Their Homes This Winter

Europe is facing an extremely cold winter that will be filled with energy shortages, blackouts and absurdly high power bills. All across the continent, ordinary people can see what is coming, and many of them are starting to panic. Demand for wood stoves is off the charts, and many Europeans are hoarding wood and other materials to burn in their existing wood stoves during the bitterly cold months ahead.

It was a traditional source of fuel.

In my visits to northern Germany in the rural farm country, most of the homes were heated by wood burning ventilation systems. Many of these systems were quite modern. Nearly all could use alternative sources of fuel such as dung from horses and other farm animals.

One of the pig farms used the gas emitted from their enclosed "pig barn" to heat and power both buildings and equipment.

I can understand why other Europeans who currently do not have these systems and rely on gas for heat would be panicking right now and looking to buy stoves/systems which can use wood or dung to heat their homes. Not surprisingly there is a run on equipment and fuel (wood, etc.) at this time.

Dude, you've been here for how many eons, and you still do not know how to have a thread moved to another forum section? You don't just type a message about it hoping a mod would see it. You report the OP and give your reasons for it to be moved. If the mods agree, they move it.

I tried to send you a PM about it, but you have that turned off. I reported the Innervoice thread (Columbus Day) on your behalf, because it made sense to move it to chitchat. This one is on you now, because this one also deserves to be moved there. But I am not doing the work for you. You want it moved, do it the proper way.

  6. And that wood would have been cut, stacked, and seasoned/dried for a full summer before using.

Woe be unto anyone who is just planning on cutting and burning hardwood now to burn this winter. Nasty and dangerous way to go.

I wouldn't say it is dangerous, but just highly inefficient. You get a ton of smoke burning off the water vapors which create a ton of creosote in the flue, and not as much heat output. But in a pinch, what other options do those folks have?

  8. Sure is. You burn that green wood and the creosote builds up crazy fast. Then comes February and you decide to crank up the woodstove bigtime because it is so cold and you got yourself one mother of a chimney fire on your hands. Sounds just like a freight train coming through your house and flames shooting a hundred feet into the air.

Been there too many times and seen too much to think otherwise. Keep in mind, I am a Maine a boy in origin.
