I will journal my attempts at trying to trade the ES/MES.
Long time 'newbie' (e.g, been trading for many years but yet to be consistently profitable) using TA.
Hoping that a journal will help me see things I don't see that others may see (such as where I do well, where I do bad, how best to spot this in real time etc etc)

This week has been unusually good

so far today i'm 2 losers in a row at -8 ticks each (first lost on short, then on long). Currently short

ps -The numbers are the ticks (profit or loss) for each trade
Ignore the writing on the charts. That's just for me to help me track stats and stuff.

Have you run a statistically significant number of trades and expectancy calcs to see how close you are to being positive?

Metaline? Can you give some high level color on your entry/exit thinking?

    Best of luck!

i don't know how to program and so running a massive backtest isn't possible. I have to do it manually, scrolling through charts, seeing whether i'd have entered the trade or not, and sometimes it's hard to see the context that you might have had in real time. Plus there's lots of discretion to my trading. It's all very difiicult unless you are a programmer with an automated system or something. So I think the best option is to just test in realtime, live, with small stakes

for today, ES uptrend started during mid-Asian session / before Eur session.
seems like you missed the opportunity.

You were trading the end of trend portion.
Its movement was rather undecisive / messy / untrendy.

    all the best chillibean.

it's impossible to help someone when they don't know all the rules to what their doing. discretion is not an excuse for not backtesting.

problem is your human eyes sees what your mind wants and ignores the rest. get on fiver and have someone test it and there will be a 99.99999 chance it will not hold up and you will have saved time and money.

Try Dow futures, for smaller orders under 10 lots I think they're far better to trade than ES because they chart better, ie 28,000 with 1 tick values versus 3550 with the 1/4s.

I take it you don't have much faith in the possibility of it being possible to make money trading, or in TA! haha

i actually am a HUGE advocate of algo's but just don't think many human ideas are worth a cent.
