I am a relatively new trader in the process of learning the market, and I am working on scalping ES futures.

Other than price, what determines if my order gets filled or not? For example, I had a limit order working to sell a contract @60.75, watching times and sales I noticed several hundred contracts traded at @60.75, but my order did not fill. Eventually it did fill, but there were many trades taking place at that price before my order filled.

Other traders were first in line at that price perhaps?

    Thanks for any input.

ES trades on Globex in a FIFO queue at each price level.

Just look at the DOM before you put in your limit order to see how many contracts are ahead of you at that price level.

During RTH each price level on the ES DOM normally has between 1,000 to 2,000 contracts on each side.

New orders raise the number and fills and cancels lower the number at each price level.

There can also be iceberg orders at each level that do not have their size reflected in the DOM.
