EOD Charting Software(Historical&reliable)

Discussion in 'Trading Software' started by heavenskrow, Aug 7, 2015.

  1. I have been using Prorealtime for a while now to do chart analysis end of day.

I showed a friend of mine a chart of crude oil, and he pointed out that according to FRED data, the lows back in 86 and 98 were not $40~~, more like $10 a barrel.

I checked and he was right, this is a huge shock that I can't rely on some charting software to do my charting analysis.

I was wondering what you guys recommend for charting software that goes back a long time. Does not need to have realtime data since I use TOS for that. Just something that goes back a long time and at least has reliable data. Prefer free, but don't mind paying as well.

  2. This is spot or futures crude? If futures, difference could be the handling of accumulated contract rollovers.

  3. The ticker is CLXXXX and says Crude Oil Full0915 Future
Which one is more reliable in terms of doing charts on?

If data quality is important and you want total control of how futures contracts are back adjusted or not then look at www.csidata.com the charting is built in. Free futures data is available from www.quandl.com . is there an index for oil? If so then you do not have a back adjusting problem.

Www.eSignal.com on demand is $44 a month. Ask them how far the data goes back and how it is adjusted.

  9. Okay nevermind I talked with a rep on ProRealTime and they said I just have to go in options and under adjust historical data, uncheck "On rollover, for continuous futures"
Is it better to adjust or leave it unadjusted for accurate charting/analysis?
Example if I uncheck it, it shows crude oil at $10 a barrel low back in 1986 instead of $40 a barrel.
