Entering trades at wrong place, what do you do?

  1. Hello.

I have been noticing these days, my entries have been somewhat Buying at the Top, and selling at somewhat bottom level.

What am i missing, or have i started to do wrong now

Has such been happening with others?

  2. ?......holiday doldrums, volatility decline, you've become a great contrary indicator.  :( :p :D

  3. Today was awful for my method. Not a single entry on any of my 3 time frame pairs. This almost never happens.

  4. what were you trading?

  5. SPY. My method is not discretionary, at least not for entries. The ways bars were forming, closing...I didn't have any line up. Usually have 2-8 trades per day on average.

  6. Wouldn't it make sense that trend following systems fail in trendless markets? And vice versa

Volatility is cyclical...if you are trading momentum you need to enter when there has been a contraction in volatility. You want to arrive when the party is just about to pop off, not when all the booze has been drunk and women have been taken!

  8. Whats your TF? Style of trading? Instrument?

I mainly trade off one minute bars, didn't notice any difference than most other days. Same patterns, small bars, same, same, same.

As one goes to larger timeframes though, markets do cycle differently, it is all a numbers game, if you have a well backtested trading plan, you just going through a down cycle. If you notice it happening a great deal out of the norm, perhaps time to re-adjust your method.
