Just creating a landing spot for various articles/discussions about the grim situation in Europe. The news is very ugly so I am going to try to lean over backwards to post any rare good news that might crop up anywhere. Otherwise it will so grim that my private parts will fall off and we do not want that. At least I do not. It would be the understatement of the year to say MORE TO COME. EU to Call Emergency Energy Talks as Prices Set More Records Ministers to debate EU-wide measures to address power costs Czech leader seeks pan-European agreement on price limit https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...raordinary-eu-meeting-to-debate-energy-crisis

So on the news front -- we are basically seeing: Norway, Israel, and other providers are increasing their gas shipments to Europe at high prices. Gas shipments from Russia are dropping. Natural gas prices are not likely to drop very quickly in Europe due to high demand and supply limitations. Many European governments will likely need to subsidize the heating costs for their population this winter. Conservation measures in homes may be required this winter and requested of residents in some European countries. For example, only set your heat at 18 degrees C or below, etc. LNG shipments from the U.S. and elsewhere to Europe are increasing -- but a increase in handling and conversion (to gas from liquid) is needed in Europe to increase shipments. Russia has few other markets for natural gas due to limited pipelines to elsewhere besides Europe.and is actually burning off tens of millions in natural gas each day rather than selling it. Russia is selling oil to China and India but at a $35 dollar discount from market price. This might work while the market price is high -- but will not work in the long term. Europe does not seem to be backing down from sanctions or supporting Ukraine despite the gas supply problem.
Fair enough and I apologize forthwith for not seeing that. It does help a bit though if the thread has an intuitive word in it related to energy so that a person who searches on that to try to find existing threads will see that pop up if they want to add to it. Otherwise time goes by and i have to remember to search on Germany or winter or something less intuitive if searching by thread title.
All Euro nuclear power plants need to get back online RIGHT NOW, or the Euro energy crisis is going to fuck US stock markets this winter.
