EMA of SMA?

Does anyone use EMA of SMA? For what instruments? I've seen this used in some places but it seems as though u are just duplicating another moving average, whats the use?

 

This may be a result of Wm Blau's book where he says some nonsense about double moving averages having less lag than single MAs. It's pure voodoo mathematics.

 

Equivalent to using a shorter period MA.

 

None. You can deceive gullible people with it.
