e*Trade home page not loading

When I type etrade.com into the address bar of my browser, the page hangs. I get a white page and tries to load and never does. It does not freeze the browser or the PC. I can close the tab, or navigate to another tab and visit other websites without any problem.

    Running Win 10 on a notebook PC. Browser = Firefox 130.0 (64-bit).

Not the latest update, but it is a very recent version of Firefox.

Clearing cache and cookies appears to fix the problem. But that kicks me out of other websites. It's a pain in the ass. Opening a new private window does not fix it.

Have not tried a different browser. I don't like using anything except Firefox. Even if a different browser works, that doesn't explain why this is happening. Not having trouble reaching any other websites, including other financial institutions.

This has never happened before. This is not a borrowed computer, I have not made changes to the antivirus or firewall, I am not running a VPN... I am not traveling, or using an insecure wi-fi network in a restaurant. And I don't have passwords stored in my browser, or any other type of password manager. I manually enter the password at each login. I get automatically logged out after a few hours, and that's normal behavior for e*Trade. I have it set to the max duration. This is not a login problem. The e*Trade home page simply will not load.

    WTF. Anyone else seen this?

Not exactly, but after doing a lot of web development you certainly see some odd behavior.

I'd consider looking into things thoroughly w/ the firefox web developer tools first (starting, perhaps, w/ the network monitor).

Also try a newer/older version of Firefox... e.g. I often try the ESR version since newer versions of software may introduce breaking changes. And, don't forget to consider the plug-ins you have installed/enabled!

    You also say:
That's a good indication the problem is w/ your firefox profile... you might consider creating a separate profile just for etrade as a temporary workaround (and to help diagnose).

After that, since it's not likely to be a network or system level problem, broaden your search... to perhaps your firewall or w/e.

You seem to be the only person experiencing this, so... the issue is almost certainly in your specific setup. But, that's not to say it can't be a "bug outside of your system". IOW, there's always a chance you just happen to be the "lucky" person who hit a rare corner case.

  4. Just to confirm that I was able to open the website and loaded it instantly.

    https://us.etrade.com/home

I am on Firefox 130.0 In case you want to update to this version.

    Try this website : https://browseraudit.com

It will test your security settings for anything that might be odd, I use it when things are not going my way. You should see some tests executing and at the same some numbers should appear in real time, there you could assert if your browser could have an extension that is slowing you down.

  5. I've had slight issues such as this before, but the EXCELLENT fills more than makes up for it. E*Trade has been surprisingly good for over 10 years, at least for me!
