The Pasquotank County DA held a press conference with the results of the State Bureau Investigation (SBI) into the shooting of Andrew Brown by police. The press conference included video of Brown attempting to run over police before they opened fire.

For some background: Andrew Brown is a violent felon with a 180 page criminal record.

Bottom Line: The shooting is completely justified

No Pasquotank County deputy will face criminal charges in the fatal shooting last month of an Elizabeth City man, the district attorney announced Tuesday, ruling that the shooting was justified.

Andrew Brown Jr., 42, was shot by deputies trying to arrest him on drug charges and to serve a warrant to search his home and car on April 21. Authorities said he had a history of resisting arrest, so several deputies went to his home.

"The facts of this case clearly illustrate the officers who used deadly force on Andrew Brown Jr. did so reasonably and only when a violent felon used a deadly weapon to place their lives in danger," District Attorney Andrew Womble said during a news conference.

Investigator Daniel Meads, Deputy Robert Morgan and Cpl. Aaron Lewellyn have been on leave since the shooting, pending the outcome of the State Bureau of Investigation review of the incident that Womble used to reach his decision.

Womble gave a detailed account of the incident and even showed video clips from different body-worn cameras in use that morning to explain his decision.

The videos showed that the deputies surrounded Brown's BMW outside his Perry Street home and yelled at him to show his hands. He then backed up and drove off through a vacant lot next door and deputies opened fire.

Sgt. Joel Lunsford, who was part of the detail sent to arrest Brown, was trying to open the driver's door and was almost hit by the BMW as Brown backed up, Womble said. He was then almost hit again as Brown drove away, the prosecutor said.

Meads fired the first shot into the BMW windshield as Brown advanced, Womble said. A fusillade of other shots could be heard on the video as the car drove away. The car then crashed into a tree down the street.

Investigators recovered 14 shell casings from Brown's driveway and the vacant lot, Womble said. An autopsy determined that Brown had been shot twice, once in the right arm and once in the back of the head, he said.

Lt. Steven Judd, Sgt. Michael Swindell, Sgt. Kenneth Bishop also were involved in the attempt to arrest Brown, but none of them nor Lunsford fired a weapon during the incident, according to Pasquotank County Sheriff Tommy Wooten. Dare County Sheriff's Office investigators also were at the scene, Womble said, but they were parked down the street in an unmarked vehicle.

The first few shots were. The multiple shots when he was driving away was not,and thats the shots that probably killed him.DOJ needs to launch an investigation immediately.

You better go watch the press conference with the videos. You are pushing nonsense.

The other thing that came out... is that the family lied about how many rounds hit Andrew Brown. They claimed (with their unlicensed coroner) that he was shot 5 times. As with the rest of the nonsense pushed by the families lawyers this turned out to be false.

In the world of those like GWB who believes every black person murdered is justified this is a cop being ran over.

Today's hint: Don't attempt to run over cops and you will not be shot. Very simple.

From "Don't run over cops" in the title to "Don't attempt to run over cops" now because they clearly weren't being ran over but the cops are still firing.

I doubt this is over.My bet is DOJ will be getting involved.Cops should not be shooting at cars that far away from them driving away.

The DOJ will not be getting involved. This is clearly a legal use of force by police against a violent felon.
