https://www.zerohedge.com/political...newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=3999 by Tyler Durden Monday, Feb 10, 2025 - 08:00 AM Elon Musk's team of mid-20s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) disruptors has once again found wasteful spending—this time focusing on a $59 million payment sent by the Federal Emergency Management Agency to luxury hotels across New York City housing illegal aliens. "The DOGE team just discovered that FEMA sent $59M LAST WEEK to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants," Musk wrote on X early Monday morning. Musk explained, "Sending this money violated the law and is in gross insubordination to the President's executive order," adding, "That money is meant for American disaster relief and instead is being spent on high end hotels for illegals!" Musk did not specify which luxury NYC hotels received FEMA funding for migrants last week but noted that a "clawback demand will be made today to recoup those funds." However, a December report revealed that NYC politicians spent $220 million in a sweetheart deal with Pakistan to lease the prestigious Roosevelt Hotel in Midtown Manhattan for illegal alien housing. The most alarming issue was that NYC paid a foreign government to house illegals. "So let me get this straight; places like North Carolina and Maui get a pittance because FEMA says they lack funds, so we have to send our Military there to do work that could be put into the local economies. Meanwhile FEMA blows its budget on housing illegal immigrants?" one X user wrote in response to Musk's report. While illegals have lived 'the American Dream' on the taxpayers' dime, residents across Western North Carolina have only now begun receiving FEMA assistance amid the ongoing recovery from Hurricane Helene. Many of these folks in North Carolina had limited to no FEMA assistance under the Biden-Harris regime. That all changed after President Trump entered the White House on January 20.
Not credible, as Musk likes to do; mis-contextualizes, trolls for a reactionary engagement --- The claim that FEMA sent $59 million last week to luxury hotels in New York City to house illegal migrants is partially accurate but lacks full context. 1. **Elon Musk's Accusation**: Elon Musk, as head of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), claimed on February 10, 2025, that FEMA allocated $59 million last week to luxury hotels for housing illegal migrants. He criticized this as a misuse of disaster relief funds and a violation of President Trump's executive order prohibiting such expenditures[1][2][4]. 2. **FEMA's Response**: Acting FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton confirmed that payments were made and announced their suspension while holding responsible staff accountable. Four FEMA employees were subsequently fired for circumventing leadership and approving these payments unilaterally[2][3][8]. 3. **Context from New York City**: The New York City government clarified that the funds were part of federal reimbursements for immigration-related expenses, including hotel accommodations, from November 2023 to October 2024. FEMA allocated these funds under the Shelter and Services Program, which was authorized by Congress in prior years[1][9]. The city stated it did not pay "luxury rates," with an average cost of $152 per room per night—significantly lower than the rates for five-star hotels in Manhattan[1][9]. 4. **Discrepancy Over Timing**: While Musk claimed the $59 million was sent "last week," city officials indicated that this amount was part of broader reimbursements approved earlier and not a new allocation[1][9]. In summary, while FEMA funds were used for migrant housing in New York City hotels, the payments were part of a congressionally authorized program rather than an unauthorized or recent decision. Claims about "luxury hotels" and misuse of funds are disputed by local officials, who argue the spending adhered to established guidelines. FEMA's Response: FEMA acknowledged the payments and suspended them while holding responsible staff accountable. Four FEMA employees were fired for bypassing proper leadership channels. This incident underscores issues within the agency's internal processes. https://www.foxnews.com/us/4-fema-employees-fired-over-egregious-payments-migrants-dhs-says https://www.msn.com/en-in/news/othe...-hotels-to-house-illegal-migrants/ar-AA1yQ3Eq
Good Morning Mark, What in the world is going on? Seems like rich people in America just keep on doing whatever they want to do get more richer, right?
LOL. A hotel that charges $150/night in Manhattan gotta be a proper shithole. That was true even before this bout of inflation.
definitely not fancy. when abbott sent few bus loads to nyc, the city initally put them in an outside camp on nypd training campus near jfk, took months to settle them indoors. some of the private landloads took advantage of the guaranteed payments from the city, like section 8 housing. some of the dilapidated motels/hotels/inns took in many, with security guards.
"prestigious" my ass. this hotel is old and dilapidated, lot of homeless are already sleeping outside. the owner tried for decades to convert to a residential building but to no avail. they took a city's shelter deal.
LOL Roosevelt Hotel a "luxury" one that was closed in 2020 due to Covid losses, reopened two fricken' years ago housing illegals. Guess if you can get a cheeseburger at any hour of the day that is gud enuf for a Transplant Texan to label it luxury. Too funny.
