I've been looking into using depth of market ladders to support the execution decisions for my trades (I focus on futures markets). I currently use thinkorswim which does have a ladder and level II but after watching some webinars on the subject, I'm getting the impression the DOM I am getting on my platform is just a fraction of the actual data. Am I right? If so, what DOM platform would you recommend?
The best DOM is still the MD trader in X_trader (and also in the new TTweb) by TradingTechnologies. But others have great DOMs too and if you are not an extreme scalper you probably wont even feel a difference. Other good DOMs: CQG, Ninjatrader, CTS T4, RCG Onyx, Tradovate, Rhitmic Rtrader, Market Delta Trader... So as you can see, many good DOMs out there, just try a few of them and then use whichever is the best one for your needs regarding functionality, cost structure...
Price Squawk is a nice tool, but it is not a DOM by itself, it is an add on for existing DOMs (they support Ninjatrader, OEC, Multicharts, X_trader).
I agree, price squawk is a great tool, I have used it myself in the past and it was really helpful. If the market is very calm and quiet you dont have to watch every tick on the DOM but you can do something else on another screen and you will hear by the sounds of the price squawk when the price action picks up again.
I'm using Jigsaw trading's DOM . The reason I like it is it shows you what is being pulled/added to the limit orders. It is well worth the 397 dollars in my opinion.
