From one of your moderators :

Someone needs to explain to me what the merits of the labels "nogs" and "white boy" are from this post. To me, this post just seems profoundly racist in nature and unsuitable material. But Elite Trader can explain why it's suitable and appropriate in today's world to talk this way.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding what a "nog" is ? Perhaps a definition of this term and how it can appropriately be used in civilized converation can be mentioned.

ps Ok, I looked it up on an urban dictionary and this is what I got :

" Synonym for racial slur nigger. Derived from nigger, leading to nignog, leading to noggins, and shortened to nogs.

  2. POLITICS AND RELIGION- "Not for the faint of heart. If you are easily offended, stay away from this forum!"

ET's liberals just can't can't follow simple instructions!

One would expect moderators to be held to a higher standard. Otherwise, what is their function? On what do they base their judgements?

  4. And why would Baron stand behind anyone's posts about anything on ET?
It's an Internet chat website you dolt. People can say whatever they want and it doesn't reflect on him in any way whatsoever.

You liberals get your panties wet about every little thing that offends you. Then instead of doing what a normal person would do...STOP VISITING ELITE TRADER...you want everyone's freedom of speech silenced so you won't get offended.

    You offend me, fuck off.

  5. I think this is an unfortunate oversight on Baron's part. Aside from the bigotry in P&R, ET is a pretty decent place to visit to pass the time, shoot the breeze and occasionally pick up a thing or two. And I really like the new functionality. But the hostility and bigotry in P&R...picture a really comfortable pair of decent shoes with shit on the sole that you just can't quite seem to scrape off.

As an aside, I'm surprised that the sponsors are apparently okay with this.

It has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives; it has to do with moderators. We expect officials, elected or otherwise, to exercise at least some discretion. On the rare occasions when sponsors post to the P&R Forum, they are at least bright enough to avoid posting bigoted remarks. If moderators want to do so, given that they can't be ignored, they should use aliases.

Wrb explained the history of all this quite well. One can only imagine -- if one wasn't here -- what things were like up here before the P&R Forum was instituted. Unfortunately, conditions like this don't remain static, and the increasing virulence of the P&R has begun to filter up into the content threads. I have no idea what should be done about this. Other sites appear to get along just fine without such forums. Fortunately it's not my problem. I have the option to Ignore. But, as I've pointed out, this doesn't work with moderators. Asking them to post in P&R using aliases does not appear to me to be a particularly onerous request.

  8. I remember some years ago, when outright bigoted posts were (often) deleted, and I think some offending posters were actually banned. I don't know if it was because of the incessantly bigoted posts they were writing, but I remember hoping that was the reason.

  9. Yes, I suppose an alias would work in that case. I just can't imagine why anyone would want to work with someone of that nature. Especially when they don't have to. Just being candid.
