My pc has just given me the black screen of death and I’m sick of windows so bad that I’m thinking of getting a Mac. I avoided them in the past because I had a preferred program that wouldn’t work on a Mac (might could’ve with an emulator don’t know). How do Macs work with TradeStation and Zaner360? any regrets switching to a Mac?
Have had a Mac for a while. I started with Windows based computers and those were beset with all sorts of problems. Foremost is security. Bill Gates kept collecting profits on his Windows programs but, never fixed the holes in his Windows software. Maybe, it is better these days but, have not used it in a while nor do I care. As for TradeStation and Zaner360, I do not use it to be able to give any advice if a Mac can handle it. The disadvantage is some software does not work with a Mac although, I read that Windows programs can in fact be run in a Mac. Now, you would need someone tech savvy to help you with it. I just use a computer, do not know about a lot of technical stuff needed to make other software work with it. Bill Kraft uses a Mac because he was afraid someone would be able to hack him and he had a lot of monies in his accounts. He was advised by professional IT people to get a Mac. He has another computer, windows based but, he uses it for mundane tasks. His trading is done on a Mac.
You can use Linux on a PC but most of mainstream trading software will need to be in a VM, just like with Mac.
I made the switch from MS WinShit to Linux more than 10 years ago , and never regretted it. It means some work (obviously) and learning some new stuff, but it's a good investment for getting your freedom back My advice: best is if you know someone near you who can help during the initial transition phase, for example a student who already has some experience in your target operating system.
