If someone has a successful futures strategy, how likely is it to also work on stocks for stock trading? Also, a separate but related (and possibly stupid) question: Do price ladders exist for stocks too? For example, if someone has an order flow futures strategy that involves trading by looking at price ladders, and they want to try it on stocks too, are price ladders available for stocks too or only futures? Pic attachment is what I mean by price ladders. Thank you.
Something analogous to ladders exist for equities, yes. It's called level II. Ignoring the nonobivious intractability of trading in this manner for the vast majority of retail folks, level II actually contains more information/detail than CME and Eurex's aggregated feeds which provide the data for your ladders.
One question. Why? If it works for futures trading scale up and lease a seat. 1) Why do you want to pay more tax? It doesn't make much sense to pay 100% short term gains on stock trading if you can take advantage of the 60/40 section 1256 contract taxation rules. 2) I do not think it would work as well for stock traders considering the multiple markets stocks are traded on vs the single exchange for CME futures.
More detail? The CME shows every offer/bid. It shows every market order. How could a stock ladder show "more detail"? What kind of details do dark pools offer a trader?
"Do Futures Strategies Work On Stocks?" In a way they work but not well, and certainly my very long term method for futures does not work well at all in stocks, so in day trading it be profitable but profits would be much smaller cause loss of volume sometimes and I would have to buy many more stocks than doing the ES.
I am looking at this question right now - applying my futures method to stocks. I suspect that is does work for the higher beta stocks. Time will tell as always
In my experience you can apply the same trading principles and philosophies, but copy-paste without any modification rarely work between any asset classes.
