First off i want to say incase anyone from IB is actually watching, "Juan Carlos" in your tech department is probably the best tech person ive ever met. I started out with someone whose knowledge of IB basically only went so far as "Did you try unplugging it and plugging it back in" She sent me off to Juan Carlos, and this dude spent 2 hours on the phone, and actually had me email my layout to him so he could fix it and send it back to me. Im pretty sure this doesnt narrow it down much but his call came from greenwich CT. Ok now that i gave Juan his praise i got to air some grievances here IB. WTF happened on Thursday, i logged in thursday morning and every thing that was on my 2 left screens was just frozen solid. This included the main IB window which would allow me to pop up new windows or fix this mess. From what i heard from him guy you guys have started throttling people, where you will only allow a certain number of windows up per user. I spent 2 hours with Juan and it got to the point where i had to send him my layout so he could fix it and send it back. (He did an amazing job) Is this really where you guys are going? My 2 far left screens used to have 21 charts up plus the main window, then it just caused me to lock up every single time i opened. Now any time i move an IB window from my 2 right screens into one of my two left screens it just freezes, WTF is happening? Are you guys limiting the number of screens people can have stuff on, beause this seems very obvious, if i keep my layout in my 2 righthand screens, it works fine, but the second i move it into the left hand screeens it just freezes and goes dead. If this is indeed you guys "Throttling" is there anything i can do to get around it beause its almost impossible to trade like this with IB with only 2 screens. My only opttion is going to be to switch brokers if i cant fix this.
I'm not running nearly as many charts as you are, but I do keep a very large watch-list up (and my position list and order lists are usually quite long, and I leave those up constantly too...) For what it's worth, what I have noticed is: In the past week or two, the update to TWS-LATEST is *very* laggy for me. I am staying on TWS-STABLE for now, because the responsiveness in the user interface for TWS-LATEST (starting from about August 1st?) is just unbearably slow for me. This was on two separate machines, one with 16GB RAM, and the other with 24GB RAM.
Mistakes happen at all brokerages from prime to retail. But...... IB's customer service is one tough to deal with to say the least.
their new update is all screwed up... the platform also freezes on certain monitors... while everything else works fine. Upgrading Java didnt helped either, so it is definitely the app. btw, I have tried to have a lot of charts open within different layouts for TWS, and it just kills the app (I have plenty of RAM and I even modified them to consume double the ram for better performance)... What I started doing was (since I have the platforms) charting with NinjaTrader for anything equities related, and CQG for all futures and future spreads. Another option you could look at is Motivewave, or even Protrader .. it all comes down to what you are charting, etc. just a few suggestions.
Max, Windows 7 with recently installed updates? If so: http://computerworld.com/article/32...7-patches-causing-second-screen-problems.html
This is a redundant step as TWS brings its own Java version. You don't need to install Java on your computer yourself.
Thx for the ideas, I know that this is definitely IB because nothing else freezes on those 2 monitors, its only IB that freezes once i move anything into those monitors, and it freezes every single time, now when i move it into those two screens, thinking i might just have to pay up for a charting service since those 2 monitors were mainly only charts.
Thx ill try this out, but im not having any issues with anything else freezing on those 2 screens except IB.
