Back in the beginning of March, MA Gov. Charlie Baker had a very simple message... If you cannot socially distance 6 feet, wear a mask. That was it. That was the whole message. Soon after that, Boston mayor Marty Walsh told the Bostonians they should wear a mask all the time, and eventually Baker suggested it to the whole state. A suggestion. And we have been doing it here ever since. New England is doing best it can with what it has been dealt. And we're doing OK. It's really quite simple. You don't have to be treated like children if you just follow the protocol. Wear a mask when you go out in public. Use hand sanitizer when you get back into your vehicle (if applicable). Wash your hands with warm, soapy water when you get home. Don't rub your eyeball out in public, before you have a chance to wash your hands in said warm, soapy water. Pretty please, with sugar on top. Wear the fucking mask.
They already have it without any National Mandates (e.g. can not get on a commercial flight without a face mask on, can not go inside a grocery store/pharmacy without a face mask on, can not go to school without a face mask on, etc). The difference with Biden is that he will not be playing it down, will be encouraging that wearing a face mask could save the lives of someone in your family / friends / coworker or someone you do not know but is one of those 1/3 of the population that has an underlying medical condition. Making it a National Mandate will be clear to people what rules they broke when they are denied services at businesses, escorted out of the place of business or arrested for refusal to wear a face mask. Surely you've already seen people wearing face masks in government buildings or stores...right ? You probably just have not seen anyone get arrested for not wearing a face mask or denied service nor have you seen a leader until now that will make wearing of a face mask a patriotic duty instead of using it as a divisive political tool...we now know the latter didn't work out so well for Trump (election lost) and a big factor in the deaths of +239k Americans. I gave an example in another thread about Alabama's football coach Nick Saban that tested positive for Coronavirus. He likes to wear his face mask on his "neck" and consistently pulls it down to have conversations with referees...including yelling at a ref...face to face...about 2 - 3 feet away. In addition, when he's inside the athletic building...he's known to wear his mask around his neck when having conversations with other people. That behaviour cause others in the athletic building to be infected with Covid-19. He's not the only one that does this...many people do that but if you ask them if they wore a face mask...they will say YES although a minority will look you in the eyes and say they do not believe in face masks. Analogy...pretend you're driving your car without wearing your seat belt because its more comfortable for you that way. Its against the law but people don't complain about it until they're pulled over by police and then ticketed. Statistically about 30% of people killed in car accidents were not wearing their seat belt. The odds of you injuring someone else other than yourself if you get into an accident via you not wearing your seat belt is less than 1%...there's been rare cases of people being ejected from their vehicle and hitting someone else with their body that became a projectile...injuring or killing that person. Statistically, a person that's infected with Covid-19 and not wearing a face mask, wearing it around their necks, wearing the wrong type of face mask that can infect multiple people people while not socially distancing (e.g. bar, restaurant, gathering indoors in someone's home, fans in stadiums storming the football field after beating the #1 rank team... Statistically that person will infect A LOT of people at what's known today as a "super spreader event". This is critically important to remember...1/3 of the population are walking around with an underlying medical condition that Covid-19 can easily exploit...resulting in mild hospitalization or death. Currently in the United States...+278k have died. Yet, we all know most infected will only have mild symptoms or no symptoms such as young adults, teenagers or children unless they're one of those with an underlying medical condition. Therefore, you need to worry more than just the elderly...you need to also worry about the other 1//3 of the population...most of whom you do not know. With the above education for you...now you know why it hasn't done a damn thing with stopping the virus (your exact words). People just don't give a fuck. That's the purpose of a National Mandate. To encourage people to give a fuck. You're now a little smarter than you were before you made that message post.
