This new law is pretty wide ranging and forbids the elected official, their spouse and their children from trading. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me provided that existing laws explicitly forbid trading on not publicly available info and penalties are painful enough to never do it again. The issue is the unwillingness to punish those caught breaking existing laws.

When you say "trading", does that also apply to other people trading on your behalf (eg. mutual funds)?

Don't know, would have to find the article I read. But I imagine that would be legal? It should.
