A Democratic Party politician who once called for the assassination of President Donald Trump was among 19 individuals arrested as a result of a multi-agency human trafficking sting in Muscogee County, Georgia.

Carl Sprayberry, a former Democratic Party candidate for Georgia State House District 139, and 18 additional individuals were arrested over a four-day operation between April 25 and April 28. The operation focused on individuals engaging in sexually explicit communication with children on the internet, who arranged to engage in sex with a child, and to travel for the purpose of having sex, according to local outlet WTVM.

“It takes a sick individual to want to take away a right that a child has – and the freedom and the safety and the comfort that a child has – to bring harm to these children,” Muscogee County Sheriff Greg Countryman said during a press conference.

Each of the 19 defendants were charged with at least one count of Human Trafficking, Computer or Electronic Pornography, and Child Exploitation, while at least one defendant is facing charges of attempting to evade law enforcement.

According to the Muscogee County Sheriff’s office, the operation targeted individuals who attempted to solicit sex acts from minors through online dating sites and apps.

“There were no children at harm at all in this,” said Brian Johnston of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

“Except for the fact that had we not been there as law enforcement working in an undercover capacity, these very same perpetrators that were arrested would have been talking to our children in our community and they would have been talking about sexual acts and meeting up for sexual acts and exchanging pornography,” he continued.

“An operation like this takes months to prepare,” said District Attorney, Don Kelly. “Protecting our children from these kinds of predators is one of the most important things that we can do both as law enforcement and as prosecutors.”

Sprayberry, 32, generated national headlines earlier this year when he called for the assassination of President Donald Trump earlier this year. “Bomb Mar-A-Lago,” Sprayberry wrote in a post from his now-suspended X account back in February.

The 32-year-old secured the Democratic Party nominee for Georgia State House District 139 in 2024, though he was handily defeated by Republican challenger Carmen Rice by just under 30 percentage points.

“I can’t stress enough for the parents – please monitor your children and what they do on the computers,” Countryman said during Wednesday’s press conference. “It’s OK to be a nosey parent. Know who they’re speaking with because we’re not going to stop until they stop preying on our kids.”
