Democratic Congressman To IRS Commissioner: You Deserve Better 3:10 PM 06/20/2014 WASHINGTON â Several Democratic congressmen struck a very apologetic tone at Fridayâs House Ways and Means Committee after several Republican congressmen aggressively questioned IRS Commissioner John Koskinen about missing e-mails and Koskinenâs opening remarks noting that he felt no need to apologize to Congress. California Congressman Xavier Becerra coddled Koskinen and apologetically told him that âyou deserve better.â Becerra gave the IRS commissioner tips about breathing and handling the GOPâs difficult questions. âThis hearing has been conducted as less of a hearing then it might have been as an inquisition. You deserve better. You certainly are obligated to give truthful answers, and we appreciate your trying to,â he told the IRS commissioner at Fridayâs hearing. âIf you find that you are being badgered or not given an opportunity to respond, take a breath and then try to get your answer out. If you are not given the opportunity, then recognize that again this is maybe not a hearing but an inquistion.â One Democrat was disgusted with his fellow Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan for his âoverzealousâ questions during the hearing. Rep. Ron Kind (D-WI) told the commissioner that the committee was âdesperate to find any type of evidence that may point to a cover-up that does not exist.â Kind defended Koskinen as a âpublic servant who by all accounts is a model of integrity, honesty and professionalism.â He called the IRS investigation a âfishing expedition and witch hunt.â (RELATED: Paul Ryan Goes Ballistic On IRS Commissioner Over Lost Emails: âI Donât Believe Youâ) Other congressmen joined in on indirectly attacking Ryanâs questioning. âYou have an individual here who has a distinguished career, who served in Republican and Democratic administrations, coupled with the fact he took an oath today. Unless those here didnât hear him take the oath or witnessed take the oath and then have people suggest him âI donât believe you.â That is isnât the way this committee has functioned in the past,â Massachusetts Rep. Richard Neal said. Neal called the investigation âa conspiracyâ that is ânot based on factsâ and âthe only thing that is missing is Oliver Stone.â Congressman Lyle Doggett of Texas joined in, calling the investigation âan endless conspiracy theory.â Michigan Democrat Rep. Sander Levin was effusive in being âgladâ the commissioner was at the hearing âto set the record straight.â Levin repeatedly told Koskinen that âweâre glad youâre here todayâ and he blamed Republicans for âconspiracy theories.â âRepublican conspiracy theories have started anew. The evidence today reinforces this long evident truth, the prevailing conspiracy in this matter is that of the Republicans desire to stir their base, tie the problem to the White House, and keep up this drumbeat until the November election. Iâm glad that you, Commissioner Koskinen, is here with us today to set the record straight,â the Michigan Democrat told the IRS commissioner. âWe are glad you are here.â Another lawmaker charged that the GOP âassaults the IRS at every turn.â âIrony is now in the Republican party to assault the IRS at every return and undercut its ability to function,â said Democratic Congressman Earl Blumenauer of Oregon. http://dailycaller.com/2014/06/20/d...ioner-you-deserve-better-video/#ixzz35HndOwnI
Mike Huckabee recently said, "the IRS is the closest thing to a Gestapo America has ever had." He's exactly right! As for the Nazicrats apologizing to the head of "the Gestapo," that pretty much says it all about just how DANGEROUS these tyrants are.
Hours before the House Appropriations Committee held a hearing on political targeting at the Internal Revenue Service, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) had a simple solution to the agency's problems â get rid of it altogether. "I think we ought to abolish the IRS and instead move to a simple flat tax where the average American can fill out taxes on postcard," he explained in a Fox News interview over the weekend. "Put down how much you earn, put down a deduction for charitable contributions, home mortgage and how much you owe. It ought to be a simple one-page postcard, and take the agents, the bureaucracy out of Washington and limit the power of government." Cruz proposed a flat tax during the 2012 election, but he said he would keep a standard deduction for lower-income earners, as well as deductions for mortgage interest and charitable donations. Former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.) has frequently called for the abolition of the IRS. He would have gone further than Cruz by also eliminating the income tax.
That's what I've been saying. Would be great for conservatives to run on for multiple reasons and if ever the timing was right...
A better solution would be to ditch all the free trade deals and impose import tariffs. We don't export much anyway, so what do we have to lose? Certainly we would gain our industrial capacity back again, which is the basis of wealth creation. The entrenched interests in both parties would raise a ruckus and say we were heading back to the Great Depression, but their policies have wrecked our country.
