Does anyone trade using a Mac? And, if so, what trading software (and supported by what broker) seems to work the best for you? I know we can use PC programs on our computers, but the processing time is much longer. Your help is appreciated. Thanks!
Eric.... IB with their TWS... iEpstein with QST (they call it OST) InvestorRT for charting.... I dont like the Autotrader Link between IRT and TWS.... DOnt believe the hype of Lag with a VM Solution. Paralles is nice, but slow, HOWEVER VMWARE's Fusion.. Is the Best VM solution I know of. For total compatibility.... Then Crossover, for integration.. No Speed Lag... I Use Trade-Ideas Pro Under Crossover. I have tested Ami-Broker under crossover... Display issues.... So I use Ami-Broker Under VMWare Fusion.... I did the Mac search, and finally yielded. A Hybrid solution works just grand.. - For AutoTrading... However if AT is not a necessity for you, InvestorRT is a Fantastic Charting solution..... I am certain they have success with AT, but I hated the lag time... Between SIgnal and trade transmission to TWS....
I use Tradestation via Parallels, and I don't notice any difference from when running TS on my native Windows machine If you use bootcamp, the speed should be virtually identical
Actually, using your bootcamp partition with either Parallesl or VMWare is an excellent Idea.... The hard drive useage will be a lot smoother than just using the Virtual Disks.... My Only issue is when Windows get corrupted.... SO. I learned to only allow My windows partition to network with my host computer.... SO I have my charting talk to TWS via the DHCP assigned IP address of my laptop.... VMWare assigns an IP address to the windows VT environment... Very nice way to do it..... No Bugs, No beetles, and everything works great...
He did say WITH, not FROM. So I would assume it's somthing programmed to work with the API.. But... I could be wrong. LOL.
I just thought I might give it a try and it actually works: Quotetracker running in Mac OS X (no Parallels, no Windows at all) with help of Crossover (built on Wine libraries) It even connects directly to Interactive Brokers running on directly on the Mac... pretty amazing.... Hardware: Macbook Pro 17 inch, Mac OS X 10.4.10, Crossover 6.1, 2 GB memory
IB (http://individuals.interactivebrokers.com/en/main.php) with Investor/RT (http://www.linnsoft.com/) and AutoTrader (http://www.autotradersoftware.com/) - 100% mac setup. You can trade & chart just about aything with these tools. note: I run from a macbook with an apple cinema display attached.
