  1. Looking for a directory of CTAs which includes performance data, terms, etc.

    Thanks for any suggestions

Why are you interested? It has become a dying industry with fewer CTA's every year and 99% of the AUM getting concentrated into just 2 or 3 big managers

  3. Who are the big managers?

    Transtrend, Millburn etc.
Big multistrat firms also have CTA type offerings eg. AHL, Brevan Howard, etc
But the diversity and number of smaller CTAs has dwindled over the years

  5. Was there ever a CTA directory which disclosed audited performance... especially for small operators?

Way back, I was a small pool CTA/CPO... was never required to report or asked for audited performance.

There's no public source of fund/CTA/CPO performance mandated by regulation.

The performance figures that show up on public lists are usually by voluntary disclosure, which ends up being very toxic because said funds/CTAs/CPOs are either doing so because they're underperforming and unable to get enough client assets by promoting privately, or because it's cherrypicked for peak performance and you're just seeing the positive tail of their PnL distribution. (Wealth managers at banks like to do this too, they create thousands of "portfolios" and then cherrypick the survivors and with a pretty PnL equity curve to promote realized performance to their clients.)

The closest to this can be extracted from Form ADVs. There are vendor services like this, like eVestment. NFA also has a directory of all registered CTAs/CPOs, though performance is not disclosed.
