Simply put, Trump and all have reduced discussion to a tribal level very often this past year. I don't need to elaborate, it was bad before but in 2017 it is staggeringly distracting. 95.6% of the World population are not American. In 2017 with U.S. politics being so heated it is an exceptional time. There are many fair minded Americans of course who do work hard to elevate discussion even if they disagree. I wonder however if maybe we can experiment and learn something or just discuss the idea? 1. Make a new political sub-form for only US and only non-US I.P. addresses. The existing forums remain the same. 2. Run this for say 3-6 months. 3. At the end of the trial, unblock the I.P. geographical selection so each side can see what the other was discussing. There will be peaking and cheating of course, perhaps a few bucks for the technical implementation if the site software can't handle it already. It probably can though. All things we can discuss here. Opinions anyone?
I think you can do that here, if there were enough people actually posting threads regarding something other than Trump. Most of the threads about Trump are started by our resident trolls who post the same thing day in and day out. This is easily solved by ignoring or not responding to them.
US trolls are the most disruptive particularly when politics are being discussed. In other topics they are or can be, rational human beings. Ignore is not ideal for this and other reasons IMO. Why can't we discuss Trump etc. as non-Americans without the partisan rubbish-rubbish-out tribalism we don't care about and are detached from? In non-English forums it is different but much of trading is through English even if not a first language. Personally I'd welcome an international discussion about the current situation in Asia from an Asian perspective on say N.K. for example. But you know what happens, you mention communism, someone says socialist, then Nazis (national socialists.. jeez) and then it is derailed into why America is better than... bla bla. your momma. For example here is an interesting paper written by a UK university on the observed differences between "Conservative" or "Liberal" brains on an organic level. http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0052970#s2 It is highly relevant to trading I expect. See how far you get discussing this with even normal Americans The organic difference described exist across all of humanity but you won't be able to talk about it without it being dropped back into an American only perspective; or why do you hate Americans you petty foreigner? There is a lot of other stuff that we just don't talk about, don't even try to talk about as the "zone is flooded" by American viewpoints. I travel a lot, I see how well other nations get on socially. I think we are missing out.
I would very much like to discuss international news, though my ability to provide relevant contributions would be limited because of my lack of experience in many places. However, given the folks here, that this is an English speaking website and the simple fact that the US is rather dominant in world affairs will invariably lead many of the discussions back to US politics anyway.
Canadians would not be on the U.S. forum. Only the U.S. I'd consider New Orleans as an exception perhaps but technically that could be difficult.
The US is very politically noisy for sure and ok, more entertaining than Euronews by far. If you are English speaking extremely noisy however 4.4% of world population is the tail wagging the dog. A friend recently got that figure from the US census site. I myself was surprised. Some of my moderate US friends were strangely unhappy about it being less that 5%. They reacted as if I was belittling the U.S. somehow by just saying that. Not a big deal but I guess they always thought they were more? Dems and Repubs are both to the right wing compared to Europe. At least that is what I have read and it feels about right. That colours discussions quite a lot. Discussing US politics is just fine, we really need to discuss it considering whats going on. Simply we need some breathing room from risking personal insult at every turn?
