Coronavirus Cases Are Still Growing In Many U.S. States https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/coronavirus-cases-are-still-growing-in-many-u-s-states/ Last week, I wrote about how New York has successfully bent the coronavirus curve after an extended period of social distancing. The evidence this week is even stronger. As of Wednesday, just 27.6 percent of newly reported COVID-19 tests in New York City were positive, still a fairly high rate — but substantially down from a peak of 59.4 percent on March 29. Other states are also seeing a decline in new cases — Louisiana, in particular, has seen a highly encouraging turnaround. Unfortunately, though, New York and Louisiana aren’t the norm. In fact, there isn’t really any norm. While the situation in many states is improving, in nearly half of all states in the U.S., there are as many COVID-19 cases as ever, and in some cases, even more. (Much more detail in article with stats & info)
It is also accompanied by more hospitalizations and increased death rates showing COVID-19 is spreading. So it is not merely more testing being performed driving up the number of cases.
Heat can kill the Corona Virus. Maybe, they should seriously, consider giving all people testing positive a hot bath? Or put a group of Corona Virus positive patients in a sauna? When you have trouble breathing if you are asthmatic, doctors will tell you to have some steam inhalation to loosen the mucus on your lungs. That is the state of Corona Virus patients, mucus in their lungs prevent them from breathing. It is natural and cannot hurt so, maybe, worth a try.
More testing is a good part of the equation, I really don't care what the narrative is telling you to say. More testing is leading to a higher case count. Testing someone for positive means they are rushing to get treatment - sometimes out of panic - sometimes out of necessity. As for the death rates, those numbers are so muddled with horseshit it is impossible to know what side is up.
The last paragraph of the article after 538 goes through the detailed statistical analysis to show where cases are increasing or decreasing is interesting. "In short, the United States desperately needs to work on techniques in addition to social distancing to fight the spread, including better testing, case-tracking, quarantining of sick individuals, and better sanitation and hygiene. Social distancing has likely been very helpful to slow the spread and, in many states, even reverse it. But if it’s the only tool we’re employing — and it’s a costly tool to wield — it may only be enough to allow us to fight the coronavirus to a draw."
Enough of this hand wringing panic driven bullshit all based on surveys and models which have proven to be horribly inaccurate. Open it all up, best prudent hygine practices in place and it goes however the fuck it goes. At this pace there is no country or economic recovery to be had.
The death rates would be lower as a percentage of the infected because of those with infections but, not aware of it. More infections out there probably, most of it of the mild variety. Focus should be given to finding a way to control the Corona Virus to save lives. Vaccines being maybe, a year out. At the same time, we have to open the economy, the sooner the better.
