CoQ10 mixed in Coconut oil - questions

    I was searching Google for anything I could find on the CoQ10 in coconut oil emulsion trick, and I found it mentioned several times in this forum, including at least 3 times in a thread originally about Olympic lifting and Crossfit. I bumped that thread the other day, but perhaps it might be better to make a separate thread. Like I said before, I'm impressed that there's even pictures here of what a jar of the stuff is supposed to look like. I've been trying it myself for a few weeks, putting a 25g Purebulk bag into a 14oz jar which works out to 84 tsps of 300mg. By taking 2 tsp per day (1 am, 1 pm) I'm getting 600mg/day, which is still less than what some of you are doing here. I just do a simple PPL split, fasted every morning.

    If any of the posters from that thread are watching, here's two questions if you don't mind;

    1. What about using Red Palm oil instead of Coconut oil? Apparently Red Palm already has some CoQ10 in it, so it's not an unnatural environment for it. But is the digestive process for a LCFA like palmitic not as good as the MCFA lauric with regard to absorption of the CoQ10?

    2. What about adding in other oil-solubles like bulk Vit D to Coconut or Red Palm? (considering that Red Palm is already a good source of oil-solubles like Vit E's and carotenes )

    1) It doesn't raise HDL nearly as much at coconut oil. RPO has only 600mcg of CoQ10 per tbsp. The digestive process of coconut is also novel (OP-uptake in the small intestine). It is far more readily metabolized than RPO. There haven't been any studies of plasma conc. of either, but I know people that have done the lab work with ubiquinone in CO vs. ubinquinol in a gel cap. Huge plasma conc. with the -one in coconut oil.

    2) Sure, you can add any fat-soluble nutrient to the oil.

    I run 55-60g of powder to 14oz of coconut oil. 1-2 tbsp per day.

    Thanks, CO it is. But now I'm seriously kicking around the idea of doing a stack of CoQ10 + D3 + DHEA in CO (all 3 are lipid soluble). Two more questions:

    1. Would there be any concern of interaction of the 3 substances sitting together emulsified in the jar over the course of the month-or-so that it lasts?

    2. I usually take 8K IU's of D3 daily, and I tried about 50mg of DHEA daily a while back. But most of the doses called for these are intended in the standard form of a dry-solid "pill" possibly with or without a fatty food to accompany it... not emulsified in a MCT. Whereas the plasma levels of people who had taken CoQ10 in CO were way higher than the usual "pill" form (edit: the bioavailability was substantially increased) will taking D3 and DHEA in CO be delivering a much higher than standard dose? Should I scale them back some?

    There would be no significant competition for uptake. It will taste pretty funky, but that's the only caveat. Don't let kids get near it, of course, due to the DHEA.

    The CO has a novel intestinal OP uptake, so I would think that all three would benefit from avoidance of first-pass (to a degree). There are active metabolites of all three (involving first-pass), but first-pass is an eventuality anyway. I would not decrease dose.

  5. Hey, I add CoQ10 to coconut oil as well. Am also taking DHEA with L-arginine AKG. All three together are very nice.
